It has been my experience that the boars respawn endlessly.   I have placed cameras at some sites that get repeated spawns to see what the radar is picking up, and I just ignore the ping if it ends up being a boar.   I do have to clear them eventually, so I can send bots out to work, but I tend to do most reports myself anyway since I have little left to do but explore.

I was lucky when I encountered him that he killed me quickly, before the game autosaved.  He spawned just a few feet away from me at a sat while I was dealing with a pesky mannequin.  Turned around, he was moving toward me, and then I got the lines and crashed.

Fortunately, my previous save was just before I came down the steps at the sat to find Manny creeping on me, and when I loaded it, the Shadow did not spawn and I just continued playing.    I would be super cranky to have it save during a hunt and be unable to continue that particular game run, because it does not look like he eventually gives up and you can continue with your work/exploration.

If you are trying to use a shortcut to launch the game, rather than navigating to the folder and clicking the exe file each time, you may be getting an error.  I'm not sure why a shortcut does not work, but if you want to launch from within Steam to make life easier, you can.

You should have these menu options at the top of your Steam interface: Steam  View  Friends  Games  Help.

Click "Games" and then select "Add a Non-Steam Game to my Library." You can then select VotV if it appears in the suggested list (doubtful), else use the "Browse" button on the bottom left to navigate to the VotV.exe file and select it.   Now you can launch VotV from inside Steam without the error message you may get from trying to use a shortcut pointing to the exe file.

When VotV is  updated, you can right-click on the game in your Library, select Preferences, and under the Shortcut section, change where steam will look for the game  (Example for the "Start In" section --- C:\Games\VotV versions\pa08_0017\WindowsNoEditor  )  and then select the exe file for the "Target" section.

I do not recall hearing anything.  I doubt that I did, because I was scrolling through to find the camera I wanted to check, and when the lines crossed the screen I was surprised. I did not expect a crash when there were eggs to investigate and no indication my base had been compromised.     Not that any base is entity-proof, of course..

I went through this as well, but for me, the event did not end after x amount of time.  Instead, after I sat at the computer to check cameras to see if some radar pings were boars or eggs at some sats I needed to go visit, I got the game-triggered crash:  lines slowly crossing the screen, a surge of despair, and me saying "Noooo, not like this!"    I am not sure if something else happened at the same time—perhaps my floating black rectangle came to give me a hug cause it knew the egg-demons were scaring me—or this is potentially a randomized outcome from the event itself.

I loaded the last save and no egg ships ever visited.

This little fella visits me sometimes, too.  First encounter I did not notice him in the server room and I ran into him and the game crashed.   The second and third time I encountered him, I saw him approaching from the corner of my eye and made sure to avoid him.  When moving from room to room, I did not turn my back on him, because if I did my screen would flash black.  So, I would strafe and backpedal while I did random chores and eventually, it bee-booped out of the room and disappeared.

The discord link worked for me, in two places I saw it posted.  But this is a link created from the discord itself.  Hope you are able to connect.    https://discord.gg/eternitydevgames
