There are some interesting assets this month. There is:

I was hoping for something spooky but I've got a good idea of what I want to do. There's skeletons in the Deep Elder Caves but I'm thinking of veering away from creating a game this month and creating a mechanic instead.

Basically, I love House Flipper and I'd like to implement the painting walls mechanic using the EP Master Materials. This will involve creating a UI inventory system that loads up the materials you can apply to a wall and then figuring out how I'd like the material to be applied. 1x1 strips? Full vertical strip? Full Horizontal? It'll be an interesting little project.

If the inventory system works well I could even add the static meshes from the other packs to it and allow users to place meshes down? I think that's another project in itself though.

Hello! Jumping on this as I started a Jam a couple of weeks ago and it still isn't showing up on itch, you need a direct link to it. Also, I've noticed someone made a post on the community page but I can't interact with it at all; I can only edit or delete it. Has my account been banned from hosting jams? When I click on the Jams tab and then "Jams Hosted", nothing shows up. I have to go into my jams dashboard to see it.

I'm just confused as the Jam q&a has no guidance on this? thank you.

Unreal Engine Free For The Month Jam - October 2023

Have you wanted to get into using Unreal Engine but don't know where to start? Free for the Month jam is the jam for you then!

Each month, Epic make a bunch of assets and plugins free for the whole month. This month there's:

  • A Gladiator Arena Environment Kit
  • Dreamscape: Stylised Environment Kit
  • NPC Optimiser plug in
  • EP Master Materials
  • Deep Elder Caves Environment Kit

The aim of the jam is to create something using the free for the month content! It doesn't have to be a game, it can be a singular mechanic or objective or simply opening up one of the demo maps that comes with it and modifying it yourself.

Using this months assets as an example you could create:

  • An in-game widget that allows you to view all the materials in the master materials pack, select one and apply it to a static mesh in the level.
  • A simple game using the Elder Caves demo map that requires you to locate a "treasure" item and leave the cave with it.
  • Using the gladiator kit, the player must escape the arena by solving a simple puzzle.
  • Fill the gladiator arena with very simple NPC's and use the NPC optimiser on them.
  • Re-texture the gladiator arena or elder caves using the EP Master Materials pack.

This jam is all about learning and exploration with no pressure to complete a game. Everyone of all levels/experience are welcome to join.

The Rules:

  • You must use at least 1 pack from the Free For The Month content.
  • Anything else used must be free or created by yourself.
  • AI generated content from Bing Image creator, Dall-e and Midjourney are allowed but should not be the main focus.

The Theme:

  • There is no theme!

Time Limit:

  • You have from the day the assets are released till when the next months assets are released.

Happy jamming!

I'm not sure what I just played. I'm just glad that I had started drinking.

i love it mate

check my simple game too please https://bigboyaarush.itch.io/ball-roller

I like the mechanics of the mannequins; that was interesting. maybe I was just unlucky though because I couldn't move 3 feet without dying. Very creepy atmosphere created though.

Literally the spooky version of Warioware. This reminded me of back in the day on my Nintendo DS. Bloody brilliant. The mini-games are suitably Nintendo-hard.

This was very creepy however I feel it could've benefited from more nuanced creepyness. Like the baby moving more by itself when you go to fetch things. The facial expressions were horrifying and the baby physics were the best part; absolutely terrifying.

I thought this was slow. But you got me. Well done! Nice style and great atmosphere created.
