This game looks like a ton of fun and as a fan of Greek mythos, I feel like you did a great job with the gods and goddesses included.
I also read your note at the end. I'm actually working on a hack of Honey Heist involving golems this very week for this very jam (hopefully will have it done in time). I was a bit anxious at first, but spoke with some family members about it (they're a mix of Reformists and Conservatives, but still :p). They all spoke of how much they enjoy seeing Jewish references out in the world and were fine with my idea. So I've grown way more comfortable with having fun with the stories and presenting things in game-form in a fun way.
I have such a soft spot for involved card games like this! This is probably the longest game I've checked out that has been submitted for this jam so far, and it looks incredibly immersive and that it makes great use of matching mechanics to the theme.
I see it takes place in medieval Europe and it feels like it has some War of the Roses vibe. I'm curious if it follows any particular folklore? It could be fun to look it up!
Ugh, I'm not even sure if I'm going to get to any of these ideas x.x I barely had a chance to fix some serious spacing issues (well, not serious but were bugging me because justified alignment has always bugged me) in my Rooster and Owl game x.x If nothing else though, it felt good getting some of those ideas down. Maybe I'll save one for the next Folklore Jam :3
Never dumb to ask rather than assume :3
This is an analog game jam, so if you mean designing a game through Canva or Google Docs or Affinity or a program like that, where a .PDF or .PNG can be downloaded and even printed out for the entire game, then absolutely.
If you mean designing a video game, I'm afraid not.
Oh wow! This looks like the sort of compact game that I always try to create and winds up wilting away in my WIPs XD Seriously, this looks like a lot of fun and I want to try it out with my group. Also, bravo on doing the heavy research to avoid the other countries <3 That had to take quite some detangling at times.
Oh that sounds amazing :D
For now I'm just planning on reviewing Rooster and Owl before submitting it. It's based on talking animals folklore. My partner has Native American blood (it was written with MiniNewt, our child, in mind), we live in the States, and I used to love Aesop's fables when I was young.
I do have some ideas for folklore that's closer to home in a couple of different ways. In the major city closest to us, there is practically an underground city right beneath it. Most of it has been closed off for safety, but we took a tour a few years ago of what's still open to the public and they have a fascinating history. I might make a map-making game based on them, though I'll want to look up what some of the more popular ghost sightings were X3
I've also been wanting to create something about golems. I'm Jewish by bloodline if not by practice, and the bits and tidbits I recall about them have always made me smile. I'll have to do more research (my ma never had an interest in stories involving them so she's a poor source of info), but I think it would be neat to have players create a golem character who is charged with protecting a town, or maybe a golem looking for a new purpose after their original need is complete.
