Day 5-7
Took a break from working on the game for a couple of days because I was tired. I've now finished all the art and I'm slowly working on code and implementation. The first build should be ready by the end of the week, hopefully.

Day 1 & 2
I actually started working on some roughs yesterday, before even getting permission. It's been at least 3 years (holy shit) since I last touched Godot, and so I needed to refamiliarize myself with the software, as well as make sure I was able to implement the stuff I thought of. And after a lot of furious googling, I had a basic proof of concept. Hooray!
And then today, after getting the green light from the artist, I downloaded some vector assets and figured out the last big thing I needed. But at that point, my test scene had gotten REALLY messy, so I decided to make a proper main scene and do a visual composition. For that I needed some test art, and so after a lot of fiddling with both the art and the composition, I ended up with this:
I think it works ok visually, I might spice it up with a stylized outline. I'm also definitely gonna redo the character art. Something about it just doesn't sit right with me...
Here's hoping I'll finalize the base sprite tommorow!

So here I am, coming into this jam fashionably late, browsing through the exposition per usual, when I come across this absolute gem
made by the wonderful Lumbud84, who thankfully gave me permission to make a game based on it!
I'll admit, I'm a sucker for games that are meant to be therapeutic, games that are focused on making you feel reassured or giving you hope, stuff like that. And once I read the captions on the cover I knew exactly the game I wanted to make.
So here's my journey of making apathello (name pending), a short, comforting experience that also doubles as a breathing exercise, with minimal interactive elements. Enjoy!

Devlog 10
Forgot to write a devlog yesterday but I didn't do much, just took care of the menu and got started on the last cg. Today, however, I have finished and uploaded the game! I finished the last cg and finalized the script, since I won't really be able to do work tommorow. I'm really proud of pulling through to the end!
You can play the game here: https://dreamy-star.itch.io/frozen-heart. Have fun and lmk what you think!
Devlog 9
I hope I didn't lose count in these devlogs, something seems wrong here.... Anyway, I got lots done today! I finished 2/3 CGs needed for the game, so I just need to do the last one, take care of the menu and finalize the script. Nice!
Unfortunately, I will be out of the house for the next 3-4 days, which means no working on the game and no updates here. I'm quite confident that I should be able to finish the rest of the game in the time left after that though! We'll just have to see and find out.
Devlog 4
Today, I mostly tied up some looser ends before working on the 3rd sprite tommorow. All backgrounds, most music, a big chunk of the script and some visuals for later in the game are all done! I think the exhaustion is kinda kicking in at this point but I do believe that once I have the 1st draft of the script finished it should get easier.
(For convience's sake, from now on I'll be keeping all of my devlogs in one thread!)
Devlog 3
Mostly worked on art and music today. Didn't get too much done but it's not bad! I now have the basic version of the first section of the game done and I'll be moving onto the other one. 3/5 music tracks, 2/3 sprites and 1/2 backgrounds finished!
Did some more progress today. Wrote the next part of the script, got the first choice menu done, got started on the second sprite and made some quality of life changes. I did run into an issue I struggled with a lot but after asking for help that was also quickly resolved. Overall, pretty proud!
See ya in the next one
I must say, this is going pretty great so far! After a day of work I got the basics of Ren'py figured out, one of the three sprites and one of the music tracks done, and got a decent chunk of the script/writing. I don't wanna go too far so I'm taking it easy, but it's been a rather pleasant experience thus far. I've only ran into rather minor issues - I'll have to deal with more complex programming later but there's no use worrying about that now.
See ya in the next one!
The jam is right about to start and there's some stuff I'd like to share.
First of all, it's been about a year since I last touched game dev, and I've been using Godot thus far. But, since this is supposed to be a learning experience, and I'm quite rusty either way, I've decided to actually learn Ren'py during this jam by making a short VN.
Spent all of yesterday's evening looking for ideas for the theme and I have my rough concept, but I won't reveal it just yet since I want it to be a surprise. I'm pretty anxious, but I believe I should be able to at least finish the game this time.
Good luck everyone, have a very pleasant jam!
