Great game! I'm definitely going to play this one with my son - he's seven - but I've enjoyed playing through myself just now. The difficulty is beautifully scaled so that you experience some success on your shell-collecting mission quickly and have a very clear idea on what you're trying to do. I found the character of Barry really endearing and was rooting for him right from the start. The graphics give the player a nice sense of the scene and the writing is well-judged to offer some smiles but keep everything simple for beginners too. The character switching was a very neat twist which I enjoyed. This game has definitely made me much more interested in Adventuron because it was such a user-friendly and cute experience. Congratulations to the author.
This was an excellent adventure and worthy winner for this competition. The writing is good and the scenario tightly focused so that the player is rarely in any doubt what they need to do next to keep exploring. The protagonist Ian, a rebellious teenager, does have to break some rules along the way to solve the mystery which seems entirely in keeping with his personality. Beginners may need the odd hint to solve the puzzles. The hint system (which worked around the geography of the school) was excellent and helped me to get back on track when I occasionally got stuck for a few minutes. I liked the NPCs too who had a little personality each but also provided a clear function in the game to move the puzzles forward. I won't say anything more for fear of spoilers, but suffice to say that this is a school with some hidden learning pathways! Congratulations to the author.
I enjoyed this tutorial and felt that the writing descriptions within the mini-game were a real strength. It would be fun to see an extended adventure by this author. The tutorial was extensive and I wondered if those who don't like reading (who obviously aren't always the best fit for text adventures!) might find the amount of text too much at times. But overall a really solid implementation with a lot of skill in the coding and design side.
This was a relaxing and beautifully put together treasure hunt - I especially liked the way that you could use the other competitors to grab hints along the way. That kept me on track with a couple of the multi-step puzzles. There's some nice plotting as well to give the game some intrigue and extra achievements alongside the fetch quest. The art was very nice and the music was soothing though I thought that the design and format of the text shone equally for me. It was always so clear which objects were in play and where you could go next - the MAP and CLUES tabs were super-useful - I thought at the start that I was going to have to write all my own clues down! This is exactly the kind of game that would appeal to beginners and younger players to get them into text adventures. I played and completed it in one long session which is high praise (both to its design and hinting as I'm not always great at solving puzzles). Congratulations!
