OMG! Thanks for also letting me know there was play on stream.

This is going to be helpful feedback, I didn't get the chance to have any playtesters, if that was not already apparent lol!

Extremely impressive for just a week of work! Love the game mechanic idea.

Loved the whole vibe! I was not 100% on what scene it was from screenshots, but once I was in the game - it was like I was really there.

I appreciate it!

Thank you for the kind words and feedback. I'm definitely working to brush up the edges and implement some of the unfinished portions.
I did include a recipe book to the left of the input display, which I should have labeled better! The customers should be able to be sold to if clicked on, but you are right! I missed a bug which blocks their actual body from being clicked.

I'm going to make sure to improve these things and then I hope you'll try it out again!

Thank you for the kind words!! I definitely wanted to make exploration one of the pieces of the game. I did include a recipe book, though I'm realizing this was poorly showcased!

I really appreciate that!

I have made quite a few changes to the game post-submission that I intend to publish on itch.io once the judging has finished. Personally, I think the game feels much smoother (the puns are contagious).

I'd love to hear your thoughts if you get a chance to check it out!

A sneak peak & some update highlights:

  • Slice rating is now periodically updated while spreading and upon releasing your left mouse click from spreading (so you no longer have to break your spreading flow to click the "Rate Slice" button)
  • Order feedback! The judging is just as harsh, but now it'll let you know how you did.
  • UI Rework

Hey everyone! This is my first game jam, and really my first project I've shared since starting in November of last year. Like most, I was inspired by Thor's message and pushed myself to submit for this game jam as a commitment to my progress. I worked as a solo dev in Godot 4 with GDscript.

As such I have made: Sandwich Empire. You have been employed by the fast food mecha-corporation, Sandwich Empire, and they have you starting off at the PB&J slice station. It's a simulation game about spreading peanut butter and jelly on bread.

I learned a ton, and have continued to tweak the game so that I can release a more polished version post-game jam judging. Things like auto-rating the slice, order fulfillment feedback, and a UI reorganization. All things I intended to finish before the submission, but I ended up spending about a week figuring out an efficient way to get the spreading mechanic to work so that the game wasn't terribly laggy (a source of many lessons).

Sandwich Empire demands only the absolute best from its employees!

Thank you for checking it out!

Good first try! Hope your artist is feeling better and got the power situation sorted. I appreciate you let us hold down the attack button and like how it is omni-directional. The cows are cute too.

I am struggling to beat the wizard, I keep trying to dodge in different directions and end up going straight into projectiles.

Nice and simple mechanics. I like the variety of interactions between the game mechanics. At first I thought leaving the messes behind wouldn't penalize me, then I realized they turn into mob spawners. Neat game!

Hello, fellow sandwich game dev!

I really like the idea of this game. I was struggling with the controls a bit, but after reading some of the other comments was able to figure it out. My main struggle was the direction of the slice being dependent on which direction you had walked last in addition to the mouse swipe. Once I figured this out I enjoyed the levels.

Defeating enemies to complete puzzle mechanics is a neat mechanic!

The platforming is fun! My bread has definitely been buttered though.

Fellow jelly spreader, cool game. Quick and fun, I like the 3d/2d look of the bread.

The controls broke my brain for the first couple levels, but this game is very enjoyable. I love the theme, the puzzle mechanics are interesting, the music is smooth. Very, very cool!

Enjoyed the art!

Get away from me granny I don't want any coffee!!

Very creative! Love the idea of a Katamari Damacy game where it's simply a dance you cannot refuse. Dance unlocks were neat, I just wish I could have been paying attention to what they were saying, but I was too busy busting a move to listen.

Fun mini bullet hell game! My only request would be to allow us to hold down the fire button, I could feel the carpal tunnel calling almost as if I had to type each 7 individually into a resub message.

I like the concept of having to plan out where you will be able to cast from and stacking pulses to empower the spells. This combined with the limited ability to walk and cast per turn makes this feel pretty strategic. Neat idea!

Cool game! I keep getting quickly overrun by the little guys, but the flamethrower feels fun to use. Definitely love the music and art theme.

Thank you for checking it out! I totally agree, the judgement system didn't get as much refinement as I hoped. I iterated on the spread mechanic too long to get it to a place I was happy with.
I love Mario Party and its minigames, so I really appreciate the comparison.
