Hey Sarainia! Sorry I caught this post late - just to let you know, a lot of our more active discussion is happening in discord.gg/pigsquad!

No winners for our jams unless stated otherwise! The goal is to work with new people, try new things, and try to finish something :)

Hey Jeff! Just to let you know, we have a #team-forming channel in the PIGSquad Discord at discord.gg/pigsquad where lots of people form teams and work with each other long term if that helps.

Hi TurtleBox! Rad portfolio - if you're interested in getting more involved in the community and using our #team-forming channel, we also have the PIGSquad Discord at discord.gg/pigsquad :D

Hi all! We're celebrating everyone's Narrative games from Summer Slow Jams starting tonight at 7pm PT!

We have an in-person showcase at the Wacom Experience Center where you can bring out your game or hang out to play others' games, RSVP here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/summer-slow-jams-narrative-games-closing-showcase-t...

We're also streaming every game submitted to the jam tonight and Sunday on twitch.tv/PIGSquad

Ya'll submitted 140+ games so we had to break the streaming into 2 days ~ they're all so awesome, get ready for a rad couple of events and streams!
_Will & The PIGSquad Team

You may! Please confirm whether or not you have already reached out on the PIGSquad Discord channel. If not, please email the link to your game page via our contact page at pigsquad.com/contact and I can help you get submitted :)

No limits there! We sometimes even have parts of our streams where we play all of the short / "mini" games in one segment!

Hi everyone! So excited to share the Creative Theme for the jam and get started soon. We have a few reminders we'd like to share and let you know about new ways to form teams!

We're kicking off the jam on Monday, July 10th at 7pm PT ~

We do a lot of team forming in the Portland Indie Game Squad Discord channel, but we've now expanded that into using forums and threading with Discord's new Community Server feature ~

  • Our Discord is an ongoing developer community dedicated to meeting, sharing, and learning more about how to collaborate together.
  • The new "team-forming" channel has threads and tags that will make it easier for the local and non-local community to stay connected via Discord.
  • Many of our online events are hosted in our Discord voice/video channels!
  • You are welcome to form teams through the jam as well - it's a long one, so plenty of time to get started!
  • You can join the PIGSquad Discord here.

Thanks all! Excited to see you jam soon!

You are welcome to use pre-made assets, thanks for asking! The only assets we cannot use are licensed music - this prevents us from playing games on our showcase streams because Twitch will flag our music and mute audio for the stream.

It's allowed for sure! Thanks for asking.

Hi everyone ~ We're so excited that everyone is starting to team form and look forward to the Narrative Jam! The Narrative Jam is part of Summer Slow Jams, an annual event that the Portland Indie Game Squad nonprofit hosts to help people make games together each summer month.

If you're interested in seeing the full circle of a Summer Slow Jams, we're kicking off a Twitch showcase of every Summer Slow Jams Idle game starting tonight, then continuing on Sunday!

Hope to see some of you starting tonight - very excited to continue the summer with you in the Narrative Jam 🤩

Correct! No ratings for this jam.

It's not super strict, but it sure is fun to challenge yourself with a theme and see how you interpreted a theme and how others interpreted the same theme :)

A few people are using Scratch and the games are looking good!

Our jam community has the opportunity to suggest the Creative Theme for the jam!

Our Technical Theme is Idle, so you know to prep up to make that sort of game and get excited about tools and mechanics. But what will set the creative mood and themes? Suggestions are open now for you to be able to recommend that second theme that we'll be revealing during our Kickoff Event on Sunday! We're taking all of the suggestions and will be voting on them as a group starting on Friday.

If you'd like to make a suggestion, you are welcome to support the Portland Indie Game Squad 501(c)3 nonprofit for $1 or more on Patreon and suggest now at:
https://www.patreon.com/posts/submit-your-idea-84121665

Thanks for your support! Super excited to see what everyone suggests and what we end up with on Sunday for the jam 😍

You are welcome to make a solo game!

Yes! Taking it easy and taking advantage of the timeline can really help you. Definitely start small, too. One of our organizers, Marlowe, put together this guide for how you might want to spend your time for a jam if you want a recommendation: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1puBQUqB_OaAEbL2Yvz-qkbVREd13CSK9STA9YZ91WzA/...

Super fun animations! If you have any questions about Wednesday, let me know! We'll be in Discord chatting with other people in short conversation rounds to clock if we're feeling team vibes with each other, then following up after that. If you don't find a team by Wednesday (or by the kickoff on Sunday), that's no problem - plenty more ways to reach out and the PIGSquad team organizers can also help people form teams if you feel like you're striking out through the kickoff!

Got you in, thanks!

Hi Needless! Sorry about that, not sure what the problem was there. Is there a way I can DM you a "late entry" link so that you can resubmit?

You can, yes! Sorry for the late reply, I didn't get notified!

That would work out fine!

Hi Magnus! There are a few things you can do here -

I would maybe recommend making a game submission page that acts as a dev log, includes a build that you upload, etc, and submit that to the jam. You can also make a general game page that will be intended for the final release of your game and submit that so that it is part of the jam. There's a bit more guidance here on our jam page under "How to Submit an Unfinished, Long-Term Project" if you want other details/ideas!

Thanks for reaching out! If you haven't yet found a teammate, there are also a few people looking for teammates in our #gamejam channel in discord.gg/pigsquad if you want to check there as well!

You can! Submitting live action, tabletop, or other non-digital games is also totally welcome.

No prizes, no voting per the above reply :)

Use it as inspiration but don't worry if you don't end up using it!

Sharing on Discord is encouraged! bit.ly/PIGSquadDiscord - we have a #gamejam channel where people have been team forming!

No prize this time! The goal for our jams is typically to try new things, work with new people, try to finish something, etc! Access is a pretty big part of our general community vibe so we will do competitions every so often, but rarely!
Livion are you hinting at a creative theme???? That's one of the ones up for voting right now 😂

Thanks Josh! Btw if you're having trouble finding people, feel free to post in the #gamejam thread of our Discord at bit.ly/PIGSquadDiscord! And feel free to continue looking for teammates past the jam start, there's lotsa time :)

Thanks for posting Eike, I will crosspost this in our Discord! If you want to join it and post some of your work in the #gamejam channel, that's also a great way to find teammates in the PIGSquad community (though not necessary). We're at bit.ly/PIGSquadDiscord if that's interesting to you :)

No NSFW submissions please.

They certainly are, thanks for asking! We definitely encourage a short video presentation, photos of the game being played, or documentation to allow others to replicate and play the game for physical submissions on itch, but that's not required. Definitely want to see games in all forms though :D

Use tutorials as much as you'd like! If you're looking for a team, I'd recommend messaging others posting in here, or joining the PIGSquad Discord at bit.ly/PIGSquadDiscord and seeing who wants to form teams in the #gamejam channel!

Yes, you're encouraged to do so!

Yes, as long as you aren't infringing!

The theme has been revealed! It's "This Isn't Even My Final Form"

Post about your work and reach out to others in the PIGSquad Discord at bit.ly/PIGSquadDiscord! Still not too late to start the jam, plenty of time left :)
