Quick jam game, didn't spend much time...

Just something around 3 hours. ;-)

Truly one of those hidden gem games that you sometimes find in the sea that is itch.io. Big props to everyone who helped develop this masterpiece. This is a must play for anyone interested in game feel/juice.

Hi! If you have audio related problems you should download the exe.

Thanks! I know the attacks are kind of abrupt, but to conpensate for that I tried to make the checkpoints less punishing.

From what I've seen people playtest it they usually beat the boss in 3 tries or less and weren't very frustrated when they died.

Um, funny story. I knew I wanted a checkpoint mid-fight but didn't know how to signalize it, so I just added so random text. Originaly it was just stuff like "Take a break", "I hear you" and "Breathe...".

Yeah... that ended up being kinda goofy so changed it to something that actually contributes to the narative. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thank you!

Alright, that sorted it self out :D

Thanks! The photograph thing is a really cool idea. If I could redo it, I would have gone with that.

It slowly builds up tention, until the storm (boss fight) becomes the climax of the whole thing.

Sorry if you're one of those people who demand literal storms...

Ye, I'm terrible with arms lol.

I know you didn't ask but they're canonical names are Makey and Takey.

Thanks! Hopefully both of us can get there. This is one of my BGJ favourites so far.

Damn! This is really polished. The story is hillarious and the graphics are really nice. Not much else to say. It's just amazing.

Nice game! I like the adaptive music and the idea. However, I'm unsure how to exit the buildings menu, I didn't have enough wood and just had to restart.

Good work man!

The concept is pretty solid, just the execution feels a bit flawed. The game plays really slow and boring, there are no hit indicators, also I feel like the theme isn't very significant.

Pretty good game. Unfortunately it suffers from the stander game jam problem of not having a tutorial and players having no idea what's going on. Literally figured out you can rotate objects with R 20 minutes in.

Alright! Thanks for the clarification.

That's a really cool game idea!

The graphics are reallly cute, except the inspector who is rightfully terrifying.

The tap minigame is a bit confusing, because when you spam it doesn't register, kinda unsure what's the proper way of doing it.

Pretty cool game!

The graphics are nice, not sure about the theme though.

Cool! That makes it a lot more impressive.

Pretty fun game!

The controls layout is a bit strange, I suggest you allow WASD movement and make dash RMB and attack LMB . Alternatively I would prefer Z, X or C.

Take that History Channel!!

THERE WERE NO ALIENS!!

just...

DINOSAURS!!!

Adorable game btw  : )

Oh, is this your first game?

Pretty fun game!

It did get a little repetitive on some occasions, but the upgrades helped feel it at least a bit fresh.

They do feel a little counterintuitive though. Like why would you want more people to burn down? I think the snowball effect that happens should be better explained in-game.

Thanks for reading my little rant. I don't think jump buffering impacts difficulty in any meaningful way. It just makes it feel more fair.

I always refer to the golden rule of game design where "Every mistake should feel like it's the players fault."

Wow! Really fun and frantic game! Cowvin Clein is the best cow ever and you can't prove me otherwise.

Probably the most whacky game in the jam. In a good way, I mean.

Absolutely loved the vibe.

Expected it to be a calm tea game, but nah, we fightin' flames now I guess. I think screenshots would have helped cure my confusion.

Really cool game though! The art style is nice and the gameplay is relatively intuitive

Hi! You wanted constructive feedback, you're going to get some :D

First off the tutorial tutorial was really well made, explaining thing as you go, instead of resorting to a wal of text, like many jam games do these days. Another thing I liked was the concept. Going faster in one direction is really fun, and when you perfectly land a jump and turn around it's really satisfying. The ship level was really creative too.

Not sure whether you drew the art yourself, in the description I could only find links for the barrel and window. To be clear, I think the art looks good, but would benefit from a stylistic overhaul. By this I mean some textures had outlines, others didn't. Some had very high detail, others weren't even shaded etc. If the style stayed consistent throughout all object it would have been a lot more pleasing to the eye.

The controls were probably the biggest problem for me. They just  felt unresponsive and I wasn't able to finish the game. They lacked of basic QOL stuff like cayote time and jump buffering. For more info on the topic I highly reccomend this video:

Thats it from me, I wish you good luck in future projects! Bye!

Had an absolute blast!

I think a better tutorial would be needed. It took me quite a while to figure out and the instruction on the page were pretty vague too.

Speaking of the itch page, the design is really nice and clean.

I was hooked the second I saw it.

Overall I think you did a pretty good job with this game!

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, I though about it, but eventually ended up not doing it because of time restrictions.

Thanks! Those are some really good suggestions.

This was really fun! Had an absolute blast! The secret areas are a really nice touch. Progressively getting more jumps was really funny.

Haha, that's good to hear.

Hi man! Sorry I couldn't be there live on stream.

Just watched the vod and I can confidently say that it made my day. Thanks for the review. :D

Thanks! I was very diligent with checkpoints and difficulty.

The purpose of the game was more so to be fun and tell a story. Not being some sort of great challenge.

Oh god! You have an intersting history, I guess...

Thanks for the kind words!

1 second before the deadline? You are insane!

Story

An adventure lead by a doodled ghost, that tries to figure out what's wrong with the painter.

Speaking of him...

He's been acting weird lately. His usual attitude reflected in his drawings in happy faces, smiles and beatuiful scenaries.

Now It's just a mess of sadness, confusion, sometimes even straight up anger!

Please find out what's wrong.

Gameplay

At first you fight off anomalies in the form of sad faces in the chaotic world.

Eventually the tention escalates with evil monsters trying to hunt you down.

The bubble pops when the painter has to step in and challenge you to a duel personally!

Can you defeat him? Or will you be left as a spot of ink on and empty sheet?

Graphics and Audio

Sketchbound feature simplistic black and white pixel art graphics, reminiscent of the doodles you used to make in your school notebooks.

It's all combined in a cool parallax background featuring classics like stickfigures, smily faces and even the elusive cool S!

The soundtrack is completely original and becomes apparent throughout the almost fully music-synched bossfight!

Many small and playfull sound effects are present throughout the game too!
