Alright let me explain my strategy to get good pixel art in no time. I used it during this jam and this was really effective.
First as i was working in a group, we decided of an art style. We chose cute pixel art.
My process is to find an example of a pixel art that match the style we needed.
Then reproduce it on my pixel art soft.
And play with it to get what i want and be sure that all art have a consistency.
Here's others examples:
To break repetition we thought adding event happening randomly that change the rules and adding layers of complexity in the rules. Like ghost are friendly now. Or blood moon, you have to treats monsters and trick children. But unfortunately we didn't get time to implement it. Maybe in the post jam build.
