It would be nice if there was a perk or something to avoid needing lube.

Would it be possible to add a button under Options or somewhere to automatically unlock the entire gallery?

Every time there's an update it seems like I lose things I've already unlocked; presumably because they've been replaced by animations or adjusted in some way, but it makes the game very tedious when I'm constantly trying to chase down scenes I've already seen just to unlock them again.

So a way to just unlock everything again would be a huge time saver; especially while the game is still in beta.

I'm not able to run any of the recent versions of the game, it just crashes immediately before any kind of screen appears (not even the black screen just before the main title appears). When I run from command line I get the following:

It's been quite a while since I last did any Java, and this doesn't mean much of anything to me. I put the dump files in my Dropbox in case they're of any use, you can find them here.

Personally I don't use the macOS bundle, I installed a JDK (AdoptOpenJDK) and download the .jar file and run that instead. Works much better as the macOS build is always having problems.

However it seems like the latest release (0.3.12) is broken for all platforms right now (crashes on startup), doesn't seem to matter which version you use.

Finally rolled it after a few loops around, thanks! It's a fun set of scenes, looking forward to seeing where it leads in future!

Thanks!

Does that mean there's no actual encounter then, or can Hiro learn 'the Cant' from somewhere?

Does anyone know what the requirements are for the bandit cottage encounter? I've been scouring multiple maps trying to find this new encounter added I think in the last public version, but I just can't seem to find it.

Are there specific requirements that need to be met, or am I just seriously unlucky on the random chance? Will it only work with a new game?

That Bandit is still my favourite character in the game (not there's a shortage of competition!) so I'd really like to find it.

With this game still being in development, it's common for new art to be added for scenes that players have already done, meaning the only way to see the art in the Pervert section is to start a new game and repeat whatever is required for that scene. This becomes a bit of a pain with some scenes having complex requirements; I still only seem to have a single scene unlocked for the Warlock for example, despite trying just about every combination I can think of (including some that resulted in unique artwork that then wasn't unlocked).

What I would like to see is a button added to the Pervert or Progress section that simply unlocks everything; by default this could be hidden with a setting in profile.json to unlock it, but this would make things a lot easier for players who've already re-played the game a bunch of times.

I actually just installed OpenJDK (https://adoptopenjdk.net) and just launch the .jar directly; the issue really is that I shouldn't have to. Been reporting this issue for ages yet every release the Mac version is still broken.

I don't know how Majalis is building the game but I don't think the Mac version has ever worked; it's missing some crucial component to make it run and all the permissions are fucked up, and I've just given up reporting it as an issue.

If you want to play on Mac you need to install Java; the version I'm using is Adopto OpenJDK, which works better than the version from Oracle, you can download that here: https://adoptopenjdk.net

Once you've done that you don't need the Mac application at all, just the .jar file, which you can either download on its own (though it's not always available for every build) or you can extract it from the Mac or Windows app; for the Mac app just right click on the app in the Finder and choose "Show package contents" and the .jar file is in Contents or resources somewhere, just drag it out somewhere you can find it. With OpenJDK installed you should then be able to just double click the .jar file to play.

There's still something wrong with the Mac download; not only does it still not work at all (please, please, please fix your build issues), but it doesn't even contain the v0.20 JAR file, despite being labelled v0.20 it still only contains v0.19

Looks like the public v0.2.20 release hasn't been completed properly; all the files are for v0.2.19 and the changelog still seems to be stuff from v0.2.19

Have the new files been uploaded yet? Just downloaded and it still seems to v0.2.19, also the changelog seems to be listing a lot of items from the older version too.

Okay, so I want to say first of all I love the game, love the art, and while not every fetish is for me, it's exposed me to some I never thought I'd be into either, and that's great.

But one thing that kind of bugs me a bit in the game is that there seems to be this kind of implication that taking dicks is bad; a lot of scenes play out from a perspective of humiliation rather than being mutual, when really I'd love to be able to play as a fun-loving bottom who just wants to have a good time (and sometimes that's with hot monster chicks with dicks).

Now obviously there are scenes where humiliation is fine, i.e- defeat/surrender, working in the brothel*, and quite a few scenes where you take a dick simply because you're just that much of a slut.

What I'd really like to see are some variations on scenes so that they can play out differently (even if it's just the dialogue) depending upon how you enter into them or what options you pick.

To give a few examples of what I mean:

When encountering the Brigand, if you pass some checks (stealth and agility iirc) you get various extra options, one of which is to just talk to her, from which you can let her top you, or use charisma for a 69, but in either case the following dialogue makes it feel a lot like you've done that purely for her, rather than it being what you/Hiro wanted too. I'd really love it if there were some way to control this a bit, e.g- additional options (maybe charisma based?) that change how Hiro makes the offer, affecting how the scene then plays out. The action would be largely the same, but with the endings being less unpleasant/humiliating and more mutual (Hiro got what he wanted), maybe even affecting future encounters (i.e- Brigand recognises Hiro and is friendly rather than demanding).

Likewise with Urka; while I don't expect her to ever be romantic, it would be nice to have some alternative to Hiro essentially becoming an Orc-cock hungry fucktoy and actually just him having fun being with an athletic Orc, because really, is anyone pretending they wouldn't want to (if they thought their ass could take it at least)?

The Dullahan, Minotauress and Fire Elemental are interesting characters for this as well, as a lot of dialogue options involve Hiro choosing what he wants to do, so I don't feel like they should play out the same as for encounters where Hiro is given no choice at all. Some of them already sort of do, except for how the gameplay sees them:

In gameplay terms, I'm thinking that approaching scenes in this way, while they should still reduce purity if it's above neutral (as you're not exactly being chaste), they shouldn't take you below neutral, and should have no impact upon dignity (as there's nothing shameful about being a bottom if that's your preference).

The basic idea is that if all the sex Hiro has is consensual, rather than forced or slutty (taking a cock just because one was there), then it should be considered more of a neutral act in terms of purity, so you can still make it to the Dark Knight without being instantly enslaved for being impure.

Related to this, it might also be nice if there were a similar but not identical perk to Catamite, best name I can think of offhand is "Make Love Not War"; basically if you have this perk and avoid or end combat by initiating sex then it is considered to be consensual as above (no impact on dignity, won't take you below neutral purity). This should be mutually exclusive with Catamite (can't take both), but could still allow access to some (but not all) Catamite options, for example the "Open Wide" option with a Harpy, as Hiro willingly does it to get by safely.

*Another possible thing to consider is whether there could be a consensual path within the brothel; obviously starting out should be undignified and impure as normal, but once you've earned a higher rank, maybe Hiro could have an option where he chooses clients so it's more mutual than transactional? Just a though.

Anyway, again, love the game, just feel like it would be nice if being a bottom weren't conflated a lot of the time with being a slut; bottoms have needs too, and there's nothing wrong with satisfying them.

It's literally a game called "Tales of Androgyny" and you're asking for there to be no androgyny?

Huge thanks for the update, looking forward to finding everything new!

Just a reminder though, however you're building the Mac version of the game, it's still broken; the app itself doesn't have correct permissions (/Contents/MacOS/TalesOfAndrogyny needs to have execute permission), but even once this is fixed it won't open, using the Terminal to open it instead gives the following error:

LSOpenURLsWithRole() failed with error -10810 for the file /Volumes/Users/renara/Downloads/Tales of Androgyny Mac v0.2.12.0.app.

Removing the .jar file and opening that directly however still works just fine on any Mac with Java already installed.

Dunno if you have access to a Mac for testing, but if you can share anything about how you build the Mac version of the game I might be able to reproduce the issue and find a fix, at the very least I can keep testing Mac builds to see what works.

In the latest public build (v2.10) I'm encountering a few issues, mostly minor:

Chastity Cage Replacement

Purchasing the Cage of Power while already wearing a regular Chastity Cage seems to just result in the loss of the money, as the new cage doesn't replace the old one. I think it would make sense the old one to be removed in favour of the better Cage of Power, either destroying the old one, or putting it in inventory to sell.

Missing Harpy Image Unlocks?

There seem to be missing image unlocks in the gallery for Harpies; I'm pretty sure I've done every seen available, but the only images I've unlocked are the various Fellatio variants. Specially the image with Hiro face down and a Harpy gripping his big butt as she ploughs him (my favourite ;) isn't appearing in the gallery.

Update: Aha! The images are unlocked when surrendering/losing to the harpies (which I've apparently never done), the issue is only with images displayed as a result of sex during combat, which don't seem to trigger the unlock.

Performance Issues

This is nothing new, but may be worse in the latest version, but on a system with a slower (spinning) hard drive the game can feel quite slow, and I think this is to do with how it constantly writes out new save games when advancing dialogue, taking turns in combat etc. in order to resume as close as possible, but this results in the game frequently freezing. Even though it's only a fraction of a second it's noticeable.

I'd like to suggest that instead of saving constantly, the game should use an "events stream"; basically instead of writing out a full save, the game would open a file (and keep it open) and write new values onto the end of it as list of changes since the last proper save. When the player saves, exits the game or if the events stream gets too large the game should save normally (ideally in a background thread) and discard the events stream. In the event the game exits without saving (crash, loss of power, forcibly closed etc.) it can load the last save, then apply all the changes listed in the events stream to resume where it left off.

I've actually developed in Java (though it's been a little while, all my recent jobs have been in PHP) but if you can let me know any details of how the game handles saves I could possibly knock together some sample code if that's of use. For example, if the game stores its data inside a Java Map then it's dead to create a wrapper/sub-class to handle this.

Mac version is still broken!

For anyone who wants to play on Mac, you can play the Win64 version so long as you install Java first (SE8 or 9), just double click the .jar file to launch the game.

(1 edit)

Latest Mac version still doesn't work, sorry!

First of all it's compressed as a folder, not as an application (need to add .app to the end of the folder name), second it doesn't have execute permissions, and third it just doesn't work in the first place. Running via command line (to get output) shows the following error:

dlopen(jre/lib/jli/libjli.dylib, 1): image not found
Error: failed to load VM runtime library

This appears to be an issue with linking of your compiler settings, as the dynamic library isn't being linked/compiled properly.

Update: Just wanted to add for anyone trying to play on a Mac; if you have Java installed on your system then you don't need the Mac version of the game, just download the Win64 version and double-click the .jar file that comes with it, it's the actual game executable anyway (the .exe is just a launcher).

Apologies for what will be a long post, but many of these suggestions are minor so it didn't seem worth posting separate topics. Also, I'd like to stress that I really love this game, I just want to put forward some suggested tweaks and improvements and feedback; I'm trying to avoid anything too drastic, as it's important to me that the creators are making the game that they want to make!

Combat Sex Changes

So I've been playing a slutty character, Enchanter class, thinking to use seduction to help win fights. Now, it works great for enemies that can be rendered non-hostile this way, but for other enemies that don't do this I find that seduction during a fight just isn't all that useful. I know it confers stat penalties, and downs enemies, but it also does the same to the player so there's no real advantage to it.

What I'd like to propose is that the grapple indicator be used in sex to indicate who has the "advantage", some actions will advance it in your favour, or counter an enemy's advantage. If sex continues to completion, then whichever partner is at a disadvantage is placed into an "Exhausted" state for at least one round before they can go into a normal prone state and then stand up. The idea here is to give the "winner" a head-start on recovery once sex ends, allowing them to use items, cast spells or attack for a round or two.

I'm thinking the number of rounds Exhausted would be based on the number of points of disadvantage on the grapple gauge, modified by Endurance. The max would be three rounds if a character has Endurance 4 or less, max two rounds with say 6 or less, and max one round if any higher. Something along those lines.

In terms of mechanics I'd see it working something like this:

  • Relax/Take-It: Recover stamina.
  • Struggle: Medium stamina cost, chance to break free.
  • Push Back: +1 advantage to bottom, low stamina cost.
  • Spread Cheeks: +1 advantage to bottom, medium stamina cost. Extra +1 advantage if top uses neutral move.
  • Spank Self: Increases chance that enemy will use Ass Blast or Prostate Grind next round.
  • Ass Blast: +1 advantage to top, medium stamina cost.
  • Prostate Grind: +1 advantage to top, high stamina cost. Extra +1 advantage if bottom uses neutral move (Relax, Struggle, Spank Self).

Sorry if I'm giving too much detail, I just want to be clear on what my thought process is on this.

Edit: Actually I just realised that is sort of how it works already, but I think the issue may just be balance; I'm only able to really reliably do it now as a level 30 enchanter with perks to minimise Stamina drain. Earlier in the game it was basically impossible to use receptive sex to my advantage except against enemies that could be satisfied by it. So it seems maybe all that's needed are some tweaks to make it more likely an enemy will stay down for a round or two after?

Spend Extra Willpower to Prevent Gameover

There are currently a few scenes that can result in a game over, but the player is given no chance to spend willpower to avoid it. Specifically the Gadgeteer, the Foraging failure (where you just fuck beasts for the rest of your life), and the Ogre.

I'd like to propose that the player be given the opportunity to spend 1 Willpower to prevent these from progressing (e.g- to avoid gaining a level in Size Queen), or 2 (or even 3) Willpower to block a game over.

Equestrian Game Over

In contrast to the above, there are a few places where I found it odd that there wasn't a possible Game Over. The one that stood out was the Centaurs, despite it having a Willpower check. I'd like to propose that the Centaur camp event be tweaked to something like:

  • <3 Equestrian:
    • Spend 1 Willpower: Player shares a hearty meal. Can't do this if Anal Addict is too high.
      • Slut: Meal is implied to be of the high in protein and salty variety, +1 Equestrian.
    • Fail: Orgy, +1 Equestrian.
  • 3+ Equestrian: Orgy with possible outcomes:
    • Spend 2-3 Willpower: Orgy plays out, player is free to leave.
    • Fail: One of the Centaurs takes the player as a mate for life and they spend the rest of their days as a "mare". Game Over.

I feel like there was another encounter that I felt should have a game over option in a similar fashion, but I can't remember which one it was.

Brothel Mistress Sequence

During the second quest for the Brothel Mistress the player is asked to retrieve some Wreslut semen, and the mistress hints that when they do they'll get some kind of bonus on top of their pay. However upon returning she ends up fucking a Wereslut and collecting semen herself, which made no sense to me at all.

I'd like to propose that that scene be moved to later, as there seems no point in sending the player to collect a sample if the mistress is just going to get her own Wereslut. Instead the player should return, get their pay and whatever bonus the mistress was hinting at.

If the player returns after the quest, then the Wereslut scene can then play out, either as a bonus, or as the start of another quest (if there's going to be one?), i.e- the supply ran out and the mistress needs more.

Urka Second Encounter

I'm not sure how Urka's first encounter plays out if you defeat her, so maybe the second encounter makes more sense in that case, but during the first encounter if you either move to interrupt and then just let her finish anyway, or you fight her and lose (or let her fuck you during the fight) then she doesn't introduce herself, she just finishes and leaves.

This means that the second encounter doesn't make much sense as you seem to know her name and be on friendly terms. I'd like to suggest that either the second encounter should play out differently in these cases, or there should be an extra encounter squeezed in first so they make sense, e.g- you just encounter her in the wild, and if you let her fuck you at that point then she'll make the same offer to camp nearby.

On a related note, it'd be nice if there were a shortened form of her camp-side scene; currently it plays out in full every time like it's the first time you've invited her over. It would make sense if there were a shortened form after the first time in which she just gets straight to business.

Witch and the Gem

I know this probably isn't finished yet, but if you hand over the Gem to the witch she gives you the Goddess' Blessing for free but hints that you and the stranger who gave the Gem will pay somehow, but the player character doesn't really react to this. Since there's no indication that handing over the Gem is the wrong thing to do I feel like either the player should get a chance to apologise (not knowing what the Gem signifies) or else the player character should try to apologise and the witch should refuse to accept the apology.

I know there's probably a bunch of stuff still to be done with the witch so it's a bit premature, but for the scenes that exist this just struck me as odd so I thought I'd mention it as something that could be tweaked to feel a bit more natural.

Dallahan Single Spawn

It seems odd to me that the Dallahan has multiple spawn locations, it feels a lot more like it should have a single fixed Bridge location like the Mermaid, with tweaks to the scene if the player returns. The Palladin suggests they're rare, yet the countryside seems to be littered with randomly shifted Dallahan guarded bridges :D

Golem Options

I'm a little confused as to what advantage there is from using the Dominate Her (Magic 7) option on a Golem; all the options and rewards seem the same as for the Soothe Her (Magic 5) option, except that you don't have to ask about her to unlock the sex scene.

I was hoping Dominate Her might allow a mage to recruit her as an ally and think that would be a better option; this would allow the player to speak to her whenever they like at camp in order to use the help, fuck or fight options. Help should probably be limited to giving a Mana Crystal only once every few days (so you're burning food and/or gold to try to farm her). She could also maybe give a free Focus Energy during fights that are going poorly, similar to Trudy with Titan Strength.

Slime and Beastmistress Recognition

Currently the Slime (Tea?) doesn't recognise the player if they encounter her again, the scene plays through the whole introduction every time, however I think it should mostly work as-is for later encounters just by replacing the intro with a brief welcome before skipping to the options.

This also applies to the Drow Beastmistress, who has quite a long intro before giving her choice to be fucked or to flee. It also seems like the "Snake" option should require Slut?

Tavern Orgy

Would it be possible to do a variant of the Tavern Orgy without the fairy? I love the orgy scene except for the fairy, but unfortunately she dominates a lot of the scene. It would be great if there were a choice that determined whether she joins in or not, skipping the dialogue and removing her from the artwork (I assume she's on a layer in the source art?), preferably with a bit more text on the other participants.

I also think it would be a good cautionary tale if the orgy was un-skippable if you drink too much, e.g- if you drink enough to pass out then you should wake up being carried to the table and are too drunk to refuse the fairy in that case. Drink responsibly kids!

Breastfeeding

So this last one isn't a tweak, it's 100% a selfish request, but Tales of Androgyny hits just about every androgyny related kink of mine except for one, which is the fantasy of breastfeeding a shemale character, preferably while fucking (or getting fucked by) her at the same time. It's one of the few things that the game doesn't seem to feature at all (unless I'm missing a scene, which is possible as I'm still only around 50%).

Edit: Just noticed that there's a possible upcoming Minotauress character, which seems like she might be ideal for something like this, given she's part cow?

Purely selfish maybe, but this is a fetish that may appeal to others and I thought I'd throw it out there if any scenes are in development or upcoming where it could be a good fit.

There's only one that I know of, but if you go to the Tavern in the town of Monsters, have at least two drinks and try to strike up a conversation and you'll get a note about someone making advances. When you leave you should get the rest of the event, but it's definitely one for the sluttier characters!

So I had several encounters with the toy merchant (chick carrying a big ol' sack of dildos) early into my current playthrough as a very slutty character, which resulted in her forcing a chastity cage on my character.

In the dialogue she mentions releasing it in future, but I haven't encountered her since; have I seen all there is for this encounter or am I just being unlucky in not seeing her again? All my previous encounters were randomly on the road (I don't recall if she appears as a character on the map or not), but there's been no more sign of her, is there something else I need to do?

Not that I mind leaving the cage on, as I have better things to spend my gold on than a 100 gold key, and my character is 100% butt-slut 100% of the time anyway, but I'm interested to know what I'm doing wrong.

In case it matters, I haven't yet completed the Brothel Madam's quests, or defeated the lord of the mountain.

On an unrelated note, but it doesn't seem worth posting another thread, but is there just the one girlfriend experience scene (with a fellow adventurer)? I've offered my character's services that way a few times now but it's the only scene I've gotten so far; am I just getting unlucky on the random chance or is there only the one scene at present?

Got a few issues to report:

profile.json corruption:

I had this happen because I lost power while playing the game, and it must have been about to update profile.json, because after a restart the file was empty and the game wouldn't start. Deleting the file caused the game to recreate it, though of course all my progress (unlocked scenes etc.) were lost but at least my save files were fine.

Anyway, this issue usually occurs when file-writes aren't atomic, meaning the game is presumably writing directly to the profile.json file each time it updates, and this means the file is wiped, then new data written into it, so if interrupted the file is left empty or incomplete. To prevent this I'd like to recommend that file writes be made atomic; easiest way to do this is to write updated files to a temporary location, e.g- profile.json.tmp, then only once writing is finished, rename the file to replace the old one. On basically all filesystems doing it this way means that in the worst case of interruption you still have the old version of the file, and only the new data is lost.

Infrequent crashes:

While playing the game on Windows 10 64-bit (all latest patches), the 64-bit version of the game infrequently crashes; I haven't been able to isolate any kind of cause though, the game will just stop responding, requiring me to end the task and relaunch it. Fortunately it always continues right where I left off, but it's annoying, and since no exception is being raised there is no error log to provide.

Sorry that I can't be more helpful on this one, but is there perhaps a way to get more information? I mostly use Macs so I don't know much about debugging program hangs on Windows, is there any way for me to generate a spin-dump/stack-trace the next time this happens? On Mac I'd just hope into Activity Monitor and hit the generate spindump button, but on Windows it doesn't seem so simple!

Mac version doesn't work?

I would really prefer to play this on my Mac rather than starting up my gaming PC to play it (though it is a really good game ;) but the Mac version does not appear to work at all.

Firstly the download isn't packaged properly, instead of an app bundle it's just a folder, though this is easily fixed by adding .app to the end. Secondly, the program isn't executable, but this is again easily fixed (open Terminal, type "chmod +x " (without quotes, keep the space on the end) and then drag the app onto the Terminal window to add its path and hit return to run, this makes all files executable.

However none of these fixes make it run; I have the latest version of Java installed but when I double-click the app nothing happens. Attempting to launch from the terminal instead gives the following error:

dlopen(jre/lib/jli/libjli.dylib, 1): image not found
Error: failed to load VM runtime library!

This seems like a build issue, probably the Java framework needs to be bundled but currently isn't.

Anyway, just wanted to say keep up the great work; I played this once a while ago and I have to say the game mechanics have vastly improved, it's a really fun game with a lot of great scenes and artwork. Can't enthuse about it enough, so I hope some of these reports help!
