Defenders of Koganemura is a four-day adventure for the Ikezu-Ishi RPG. Tasked with protecting the village of Koganemura from an impending bandit raid, players must train villagers, build defenses, and prepare for the final battle.

Inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai and designed for 2-7 players, Defenders of Koganemura is easily adaptable to other Cairn-inspired systems.

Aw crud, thanks for the heads up!

Thanks!

I’m working on an SRD here, need to clean I’m up but feed free to use it as needed

YIKES! I'll have to check the "final". Thanks for that!

Just in time for the holidays, V1.0 of Ikezu-ishi is officially RELEASED!

Tightened up from v0.9 and a few more facts added I'm working on a separate adventure that'll help build the setting more, so stay tuned.

Enjoy and please let me know how your games go!

And thanks for catching that edit on the settlement name generator.

These are amazing! Great work and thanks for putting these together!

Doh! Thank you!

Oh snap, really? I’ll look into that, that’s pretty important to me too. Thanks!

thanks!

Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, come one, come all for v 0.9 of Ikezu-ishi and enjoy!

This may be IT. Barring any massive edits or someone going "hey, you've completely missed the fundamentals of fun" I've told myself to stop adding and focus on cleaning up for final release. Whew. So v 0.9 may become v 1.0 if all goes well. Squee and stuff.

Tweaks:

  • embraced Cairn 2e Warden’s Guide, woo
  • Locations and Landmarks tables by terrain
  • Good bye advantage/disadvantage, welcome back enhanced/impaired
  • Expanded setting including a town and NPCs for folks wanting a place to get started
  • Historical summary of Japanese periods with clans faction listings
  • More…

Any thoughts, questions, impressions, confessions of undying love, just give a shout in the comments. And thank you for taking a peek at my little project here.

Thanks!

- GREAT point on the encounters co-mingling with player facing content. I'll rearrange, gotta settle on what goes where.

- No specific adventures come to mind right now, I've been generating as I go while kicking around a setting. Any adventures for Cairn could apply, just substitute encounters/creatures. I'll do a bit more digging and see if I can make any specific recommendations, tho.

Woah dang, that’s right! The community has already delivered. Thanks!

I like both of the Electric Bastionland options there. Admittedly, the crawling portion of Ikezu-ishi is where I feel I'm weakest, but ideally it's modular enough that folks can bring in what they enjoy using. And wow, thanks for passing that along! Appreciate the kind words -- it's good motivation.

I like those for the abilities, will likely update. If it's good enough for D&D and CoC...

And good gravy, I did that with Ryo everywhere, didn't I? No idea how I got that wrong throughout, I know better. Thank you!

I had found it used for "Agile" but I could be viewing it in the wrong context. I have Kiyosa in my notes as well, though I'm not sure how I settled on Kibin. Is there a better word for it? (File is ready for editing!) -- Thanks!

Thank you! BDP is a fantastic book, really helps add depth while keeping the rules lite. And how could I NOT borrow rules for Dueling?

Woah, high praise indeed! Both the comparisons but especially the sessions! Hope you and your playgroup have enjoyed it. Curious if you've used outside tools or house rules to help the game along. Always neat to see how folks play.

Thank you!

DOH! Thank you! I think I caught them all in the newest version.

This is a big one, folks. Four new backgrounds, a slew of tables, encounters, weapon skills, dueling, tactics, and more! Chockful of full color graphics and some sidenotes to add a bit of history and flavor, this is COMPLETE game (but still in playtest mode).

Enjoy and please let me know any questions or corrections you might have.

Woo!

Hot damn, thanks!

Question on Hunter (Ryoushi) - I'm adding a background for fisherman, but it looks like that has the same translation. Is there a different term for either that could apply? Thanks!

You are AWESOME! Thank you!

That’s my mistake. I was reworking encounters and had pulled them from the book. Not sure why I left the chart in there tho.

Here are the encounters tables that will be in v0.8 which I’m hoping to release  by the end of September. Hope these help!

Any plans for this to be available in print?

Woah, 8 sessions?!! That’s awesome! Curious what elements you’ve brought in from elsewhere - I really enjoy the modular nature of Odd/Cairn games, really helps playgroups build for their own tastes.

On organization and more - admittedly, I’m still trying to get that down. Part of that is the nature of my development (Oh! I should add a table for. . .) but also nailing down user flow. There certainly is no one way to do it, but I definitely need to figure a way to get this more organized.

I’m leaning toward pointcrawls lately, in part because of Cairn 2e and your point on them being easier to manage and run. Also, the more I play with them the more hexcrawls feel like a better tool for exploring unknown territories and worlds where this setting lends itself to more established maps and routes (to a degree). Terrain based encounter tables can still exist and be just as easy to use in a hexcrawl system so folks can swap if they want.

Thanks for the feedback - and for playing the game! I really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

Happy early birthday, Ho to the Dag!

Good call, certainly for anything too indepth.

Thanks! “Make the game you’d want to play” is always good advice. But also keeping it digestible for others. I may “finish” this and then start picking it apart down to barebones and then additional volumes. But first to “finish” it…

Wow, thank you!

90s based Ash vs Evil Dead-esque fun? Sign me up!

Looking good! FYI, you’ve got PROCEDURES in there twice, pages 8 and again at 10.

Sounds like a blast! Thanks for the update - and for playing around with the system.

Thanks! Please let me know what you think!

Hot dang, thanks! Please let me know how it goes.

OK, so it's not quite done yet, but after some editing and formatting it's so very close.

  • Updated for Cairn 2e!
  • Over 120 pages
  • 45+ tables
  • 24 new Yokai and 5 new human NPCs
  • more tables for character and NPC generation and depth
  • a condensed bestiary
  • 100 pregenerated characters good for any Cairn/Into the Odd game

Encounters are being reworked but this is a nearly finished game! As long as I can stop perfect from being the enemy of good. *shakes first at perfect*

Enjoy!
