5pm was set as the recommended deadline, but submissions will be accepted until midnight. So you have until midnight but don't wait until the last minute!

Finish up, make the game build, and submit at least an hour or two before the deadline. Don't forget to include the Houdini images/videos and .hip files along with the game build!

Looking for a team for Houdini Game Jam 2022? Post in this thread to find and join other game jammers.

As mentioned, it's not possible to update games until after the judging period is over.

Ok send me an email at ben [at] sidefx [dot] com with the link to your game on Itch.

Were you able to submit your game on time?

Were you able to submit your game on time?

You can email the HDAs to me at ben [at] sidefx [dot] com. I will keep them private and not re-distribute them.

Please submit a bug for this by emailing support@sidefx [dot] com

No problem, you can still request a temporary Houdini Indie license by filling out this form.

Using one of the game jam starter kits can also qualify for usage of Houdini depending on how they are used.

Yes, you can use assets outside of the listed resources and CCO assets as long as you have the rights to use them. When submitting your game entry you will be required to list all of the assets you used that were made before the game jam.

Yes, you can use any software tools that you have available and ready to use in addition to Houdini.

Good question, that would be ok but you will still count as 1 person on each team you work with, and teams are limited to 5 people or less. Also, if you work with multiple teams that end up winning (if you made audio for both the 1st and 3rd place winning teams for example) you will not receive double the amount of prizes. You will just receive the set of prizes for the highest placing team you worked with.

Yes, you can use pre-made Houdini assets that will be counted as "Use of Houdini". You will need to list which pre-made assets you used and which assets you built yourself during the game jam.

You are allowed to use any game dev tools, add-ons, and assets that you would like. You will be required to list which tools and assets you used when you submit your game.

There are currently no rules excluding Houdini Game Jam games from being submitted to other game jams, so it should be ok as long as the other game jam doesn't have any rules about that.

Houdini Game Jam is beginning soon! Use this thread to post about finding a team to join, adding more people to an existing team, etc.! (Keep in mind that Houdini Game Jam teams are limited to 5 people or less)

Great, thanks for the info!

Nice work! Your game is listed in the Procedural Magicians modifier category, did you use Houdini to make your game? If so, how?

Thanks for your patience! The judging period has ended and the winning games have been decided based on the Itch ratings from the judges. The winners will be announced soon on SideFX's website, so bear with us just a little bit longer.

It looks like Itch has a way to add games that missed the deadline to the game jam. Complete the following steps soon to have your game added to Houdini Game Jam.

1. Add the following questions and their answers to your game's description on Itch:

-Team Name

-Game Name

-Contact person name and email address

-How was Houdini used in your game's development?

-Besides Houdini, what other tools did you use and what did you use them for?

-List any content that was created before the jam that was included in the final submission.

2. Send me an email at ben [at] sidefx [dot] com that includes your game's Itch link. I will reply with a custom URL to use to add your game to Houdini Game Jam.

For reference, these are the games that are being accepted during the grace period. No other game entries will be accepted.

It looks like your game was submitted on time. I see it in the Houdini Game Jam games and it's able to be judged.

Ok, we'll allow a grace period. Get your game up on Itch and post the link in this thread. Midnight tonight PST will be the final deadline.

Thanks for the message and sorry to hear you haven't received your Substance license yet. I've asked my contact at Adobe about this, would you mind sending me an email at ben [AT] sidefx [DOT] com in order to get this solved?

Student versions of software are permitted as long as you have the necessary permissions from your school to use the software. Also, note the line in the game jam rules that says "All content must be the property of the submitter. If you are running Houdini on an employer or school computer make sure that this does not compromise your ownership rights."

Using the Game Jam Starter Kit assets in the game engine without using Houdini itself is permitted, but keep in mind that the judges will be looking for "Best Use of Houdini" when judging the games. Each team will also be required to list which tools they used and how they used them.
