Please make it clearer that this is not an actual retro Game Boy game, but rather a modern game using a "retro" aesthetic. Also consider changing the tags. Someone shouldn't get a computer game if they click on a "Game Boy" tag.

Since someone else mentioned a recent promo email, I'll ask what does this line mean:
"the game is free till I add the 5th boss. The current version of the game will then become the demo for the game after that."
If I download it now, is it the full game? Will it work after the 5th? If what's up now is the full game, why not make it claimable? What happens if people want to download (maybe again) afterwards?
I appreciate the promotion, but it's a little confusing, so please clarify. Thank you.
I went to purchase a game on sale for $0.50 (fifty cents) and when I tried to pay, was told the minimum allowed is 100 cents.
I looked for other games I might like, but couldn't find an "add to cart" button or similar to purchase multiple items on a single transaction.
I searched the forums and found multiple old posts (some from 3+ years ago) where this issue has been brought up. Is there still no "shopping cart" feature on the site or did I miss something?
I'm an end-user, not dev. My main complaint for itch is the search system.
I think more tags should be implemented (i.e. retro-inspired games vs games that can run on retro systems).
itch desperately needs a tag exclusion option other than an old workaround. Example: I like games featuring gay characters and a variety of subjects, but I do not want visual novels! There's no easy way to filter them out, and the gay and LGBT+ tags seem inundated with that type of game.
The lack of decent search functions has led me to be less likely to come here in general, just because of how annoying it is to try and find something of interest. Lack of exclusion filters are a huge issue, and I agree with MossMisfit here. The lack of updates is hard to overlook.
To use a personal example, as someone under the LGBTQ+ umbrella, the appeal of itch is that, in theory, games that are interest to me are more embraced here. However, when it comes to actually find anything worthwhile (to me), the need to be able to narrow a search while filtering out stuff that seems so prevalent with that tag (i.e. visual novel), but not able to do so, makes having LGBTQ+ content almost meaningless.
The tag system definitely needs an overhaul, whether it's a streamlining of available tags, or expanding on current ones. Example: With the rise of games embracing a "retro" aesthetic, there needs to be the ability to filter between games that are just retro-inspired versus games that actually run on retro hardware. Expecting people to wade through the plethora of low-poly tech demos tagged "retro" in the hope of finding something that would actually run on a PS1 (or similar dilemma) is basically asking people to have a bad user experience.
I like the premise of itch, and really hope it continues to do well. However, there's no way I can recommend it in its current state.
Search exclusions need to be made a standard feature, not a URL edit that needs to be manually done, whipped up 5+ years ago, and doesn't work consistently. Search tags also need to be expanded upon (i.e. retro-inspired vs games that run on retro hardware). It's sad something so fundamental has yet to be implemented.
Better search functionality (whether search exclusions, expanded tag options, etc) have been asked on here multiple times just in the last month. Hopefully it's being worked on, but as of now it's a bit of a mess.
Depending on what's available, using 3rd party tools may be an option. For example, since I got the Ukraine benefit bundle last year, I use Bundle Browser to find something I may be interested in from that
This is more of a "how to use a computer" type of question; does itch have a FAQ that would cover such things?
EDIT: The FAQ has a mention of .zip files under the Creating section of the FAQ but I didn't find any section for helping end-users navigate different file types.
Anyway, .rar files are a type of compressed archive, similar to .zip and .7z files. I personally suggest 7-Zip as it's cross-platform, open-source, and integrates well with menu items once installed. You can use it to open .rar archives in addition to other types.
The game's page is still up:
https://christopher-laino-games.itch.io/paranormal-buddies
However, access has been restricted. From the page: "This game has been restricted by the author and can not be downloaded. The owner of the page must give permission to those they wish to access the page."
My best guess is the author is reworking things and will probably re-release it when bugs or other things are fixed.
The only platform listed in the description for this game is Windows. I get wanting options, but not all games on itch are made for multiple platforms.
EDIT: I just looked at the game's page on Steam, and there are versions for Linux and MacOS. My bad. I wonder why all versions aren't available here, since they exist on other stores.
Sorry for the late reply! I played for a little bit it seems softer on the eyes. When I get a chance I'll do a little more playing to compare it with the v1.0 version to see if I can get you a better description
EDIT: So, I feel silly 😛 My comment was me going by memory. I re-downloaded v1.0 and switched between that and 1.1. to better compare. v1.1 is MUCH easier on the eyes. I haven't played any extended sessions, but I am convinced v1.1 would be the version to use for that. Thanks again!
