Thank you! This means so much especially coming from a fellow pixel artist :)

Thank you so much for the kind words, Mascot! Personally, I am not a big fan of backtracking but I think the maps in the game are small enough for it to be endurable :) Glad you liked my sprite work since I can still be somewhat insecure about the quality of my pixel art :)

Thank you so much for your feedback, erin! I genuinely thought the save room was obvious enough since the save point is right next to it. But I do understand that not entering it first can become frustrating really quick. I hope level designs of my future games will be much clearer in their intentions :) Some enemies respawn after resting in the beds because I wanted to give players an opportunity to grind if they struggled with the tougher encounters. So glad you think the game deserves to be played through to the end. That is such high praise. Thank you so much! :)

Thank you, Nowis :) Really glad you liked it :)

Thank you for all the kind words, codapill :) So glad you appreciated the visual clarity of the battle system since this is always a goal of mine! Thankfully it can be achieved rather easily with the RPG Maker MZ and the help of certain plugins. The music is by Bert Cole whose work I absolutely adore! Should I ever manage to become a more skilled and time efficient pixel artist custom face graphics will become a top priority :)

Really enjoyed seeing a custom skill tree in a small game jam project like this. Unfortunately, I couldn’t even defeat the slime king after grinding to level 7. His fire attack killed both my characters with two strikes :/ Apparently, I should have used the exp for certain skills? Since the narrative and the dialogues seemed kinda basic I didn’t feel compelled enough to grind for a second time. I appreciated the visible enemies and their custom behaviour. But maybe you shouldn’t use to many small passages within the dungeons since they made it impossible to avoid the enemies sometimes. Liked the ideas with the boulder pushing and the trees that had to be defeated to get rid of the vines. Despite the balance issues and the middling narrative, I still enjoyed this game :)

Thank you so much for the kind words, Thund :) Technically I am capable of creating pixel art faces and maybe even a more appealing title graphic. But it would have taken me a very long amount of time that I rather spent creating the game itself :) The ending was meant to represent another kind of second chance at life rather than alluding to a sequel :)

Don’t really know how to explain the location of the game freeze better. Maybe try walking on the top border of the map before the final boss map. Somewhere on the left side of the teleporter to the boss map you should encounter the game freeze.

Yeah, those are the descriptive messages I meant. Personally, I’m more of a show don’t tell kinda guy. So, for example, I would prefer showing a character sprite raising their arms rather than having a message describing that to me. Though I got to admit that the message is far easier to implement and given the short amount of time for a game jam this is probably the more effective solution.

In regards to the mapping maybe just try making the areas a bit wider so that the player doesn’t run into something every second step. Also, I usually prefer avoiding open borders where the character can reach the end of the screen without being teleported to another map. This feels especially weird on the top border of the screen where the heads of the sprites get cut off. But that are just my preferences :)

Thanks for the kind words! Really glad you liked it :)

Always a fan of classical projects like this that show off how much is possible with the standard assets of the RPG Maker :) Plugins were nicely put to use and the writing was pretty good. Although there have been too many of these descriptive messages in my opinion. The battles are fairly easy with the exception of the last boss fight that provided a welcome challenge. Really enjoyed the resource collection part that provided a nice amount of variety. The mapping was the weakest part in my opinion. I get that searching for the right path to the items is supposed to be part of the challenge but the maps were far too convoluted and I rarely managed to find the proper exits on first try. Was the menu supposed to pop up at the beginning and the end of the game? Felt like a bug to me. Also, the game froze when I tried to enter the boss area on the far left side of the map that came before it. Overall, I really enjoyed this one :)

Thank you very much! Sweet was kinda what I was going for since it fits the chosen music track quite nicely :)

Congratulations to the winners and a big thank you to the judges! I really hope this isn't the last game jam of this kind that we will see :)

Thank you for the feedback, HawkZombie :) I remember watching  you play the game on your stream which was quite the experience to watch. Especially since you were the first judge who played the game :) And I will never forget you wholeheartedly laughing when my nickname appeared in the credits xD

(1 edit)

Hey Teal, thanks for playing and uploading this stream :) Got to admit it is kinda painful to see yet another judge maneuver through the balancing issues :/ But I had the feeling that you still enjoyed your time with the game and it was heartwarming to watch :)

Thank you so much for this detailed feedback, Drifty! Really appreciate it :) The fact that you played the game for approximately two hours to see the ending feels very flattering. I was struggling to complete the game as the deadline approached so quite a lot of balancing and proper testing got thrown under the bus. If I had managed my time a bit better I might have been able to spot and correct some of the issues you encountered. I am glad that you enjoyed the game overall :)

Thank you so much for the 5 stars, Opalablue :) Really appreciate it! I actually considered respawning the bushes upon resting but I thought cutting them all over again might feel tedious.

Thanks for the feedback, Kracy :) Really appreciate it! The stun can be prevented by equipping the Buckler that you can buy after saving the blue fairy. There is a hint in its item description but I probably should have made that a little bit clearer :/ The story is supposed to be a little bit enigmatic. There is a clear intention behind all of it and I am curious whether somebody might figure it out :)

Neat little project that really showcases how much one can accomplish with the tools and resources provided by the engine itself. Really liked how you pretty much could interact with everything :) Balancing worked well till I reached the Betelguese which whipped the floor with me with it's Eight Deaths attack :(

Thank you for the kind words, res1fwfu :) By animated edges you probably mean the scrolling backgrounds, don't you? You can implement those by pressing right-click on the map name in the bottom left corner, go to edit and then set a parallax background :) The battles are improved with the Battle Core plugin by VisuStella :)

Finished this one in a single sitting that took me about 45 minutes. Absolutely adore the graphics of this one and the theme of the game jam was very uniquely interpreted. Music was also great with an absolute banger of a track playing within the dungeon! Only had tiny gripes with the game like the anticlimactic ending sequence or graphical issues like the hero being visible during some screen transitions or the head of a NPC vanishing behind a door. But all in all a really good game. Well done!
