So that was not what I was expecting. But I'm not complaining in the slightest.

From Renpy to Unity? Would it still be in a kind of visual novel style like it is now?
I've seen others do that and it seems to work pretty well. Like Out of Touch moved to Unity a while ago and it works pretty well. They're still doing the visual novel style too.
If you find Unity is easier to mess around with compared to Renpy, then I say go ahead and do it. I know Renpy seems to be fairly finicky with what you can and can't get away with. While Unity is way more open.
Fairly certain 0.4 is just a free demo.

At least that's what I got from this post.
I believe the galleries from 1 - 9 can't be viewed from chapter 10 and beyond because chapter 10 and beyond IS a separate game. The saves (all your choices and shit) are just exported and grabbed by Ch10+ but NOT the scenes/videos/whatever. So if you could view 1 - 9 from Ch10+ you'd just get the standard Ren'Py error saying the image is missing.
I believe this is done as a way to reduce file size. As Season 1 (chapters 1 - 9) combined with Season 2 (chapters 10 to probably 19 or something) would probably make the game about 15 to 17GB. So by splitting it in half Season 1 is only 8.2 GB and Season 2 would be around the same size. Then you just download and complete Season 1, delete it, then download and complete season 2, delete it, then repeat for Season 3 if there is one.
There should only be 2 scenes in chapter 10.
Since chapter 10/season 2 is launched as a separate game, it only shows gallery scenes available in season 2 because viewing scenes in season 1 from season 2's executable/application would result in an error. If you're before chapter 10 and you only get 2 scenes in the gallery then there is something wrong.
I've played a couple other games that tend to split into 2 separate games at some point and they've done similar things with their galleries. My Time with You for instance has "book 2" as a separate game and it only shows scenes from book 2 in the gallery once you reach that splitting point.
TLDR: Needs a prologue or something to properly explain everything and the characters. Might be my sleep deprivation stopping me from understanding it, gonna try and get some actual sleep for once and play it from the beginning later and see if my opinion's changed. Everything else is pretty good tho (graphics, character designs, environment, etc)
I'm gonna be honest here, this game has everything it needs to be good but I just feel confused trying to understand the characters so far. Graphics are good, character designs are good, and the overall setup seems good too. But the characters are kinda just there and it feels like you're supposed to know them already.
I think it'd benefit greatly from a sort of prologue chapter that properly introduces the characters. Because currently it feels like grabbing a book to read, flipping to the first page, and it says chapter 4 despite being the very first book in the series, and it expects you to already know each character. Like the very first interaction you have with Emma is sex and the only explanation you get is "this isn't the first time we've done this" which is fairly self-explanatory but at the same time makes her feel like the "obligatory sex scene because otherwise it wouldn't be an adult vn" character. Then with Nikita she went to the same academy as the MC but she acts like she's been a vigilante for over 20 years or something while the MC is just a new recruit and the start of the game is his very first "real" mission. She was the MC's senior in the academy but... that isn't really explained much at all. Then they act like best friends and go out drinking (Which they've done multiple times apparently) but strangers at the same time. Same goes with Ling, like the MC went to the academy with her too or something but you know nothing about her and she's just there once or twice.
I know there's already a small exposition before the actual game begins, but that just tells you that MC's parents are dead, he lives with his friend's family (Emma and her mom), and went to a police academy. All in like 5 or 8 sentences. I feel like if it was it's own actual chapter and you got to see some of his experiences in the academy as well as interactions with Emma, Ling, and Nikita that'd make it more comprehensible and give them more of a reason to be there. An actual background that the player could use as a point of reference.
That mission at the start feels like the beginning of a spy movie where usually it goes "that's me and my team, I bet you're wondering how we got here" then the entire movie is the setup leading up to that point. But the game doesn't do that. There's no flashback where the MC interrupts and then goes "Oh yeah, I should probably explain what's going on and how I got into this situation so you aren't confused." Instead you get a bunch of bandits and guards talking about a bunch of things in the game's world, which leads to an overload of information and almost none of it is immediately relevant.
I don't know if it's just my sleep deprivation or what, but it just doesn't feel right to me. I'm gonna give it a few days to get some actual sleep, reinstall the game, replay it from the start, then come back and see if my opinion on it has changed at all. Graphics are great, character designs are great, environment looks pretty good too, animations were great, and the story seems like it has potential.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. You've improved a LOT since Once in a Lifetime. And this update further cements that.
Writing is top notch, comedy is fucking perfect, there's tons of serious moments, mysterious ones, and incredibly romantic/wholesome ones too. The world building is great too. It includes an uncountable amount of interesting characters. The music fits each scene perfectly too.
Just... damn dude. Keep going. The amount of effort put into this is insane and should be celebrated.
Yeah, you're gonna have to use MEGA and wait out the limit. Every day (or every 5 hours or something, can't remember) Mega restores your 5GB limit. Either that or get lucky and click the google link at the perfect time.
Just leave your computer/phone/whatever on and plugged in and it should work. Also download using the application if you aren't already.
People getting mad about Chika when her story isn't even finished yet. I'll admit, it isn't something I enjoy the thought of either, but like, her story isn't finished yet? Character development and shit exists you know?
That's like booting up a game and never playing it again because the main character was an asshole in the prologue. A good story has characters that grow, develop, and change as it progresses. Sure, that's who Chika is right now, but who knows who she'll become as the story progresses? Maybe it'll turn out she has the best character development and story in the game? Or, it turns out she has the worst... Who knows? Game's not complete yet so nobody knows.
But I do have a few predictions as to why she does what she does. I mean are we gonna ignore that scene with Chika at her house? "Just go make more!" and "If she never had you...She would still be..." It's quite easy to see it's her drunk, abusive father who blames her for her mother's death. Chika has daddy issues, comes from a poor family, and she has to make money somehow. I wouldn't blame someone for doing that if that was their situation in real life. Hell, the main character even says that she might be able to make a difference in the future.
Anyways, it's still a bit of a controversial choice but hey, I am curious to see how her story goes.
I know that the developer(s?) are going through some things right now but I believe they need to know that this was the first game to make me shed actual tears for the first time in many many years. Check my profile for a collection of other games... Mainly My Bully is My Lover, a bit of Eternum, and a bit of Once In a Lifetime. Those games got close to making me cry but didn't make me go all the way. MBML had a lot of emotional moments in it and got me close to crying quite a few times. While the other two almost made me cry at most 3 times each.
But... for some reason this game had me at that point MANY more times throughout it than MBML ever did. I think its the whole time travel thing, how well put the drama is, and all of the past interactions with everyone that the MC has had. It adds an incredible layer of attachment to the characters so when something happens you fucking feel it. I ended up actually crying at the end of chapter 25, which is something the previously mention games have never managed to do to me and I don't know why. Chapter 25 alone had me on the verge of tears maybe 4 to 5 times.
I feel that the developers should know that what they've made has had such an emotional impact on me. Something that they've created, most likely as a hobby or for fun, has moved me in such a way that many many maaaaannnyyy things before have failed to do. As such I have to say that I sincerely hope that whatever they are going through has a happy ending and that they continue to develop this masterpiece so that maybe I may cry some more while playing it down the line.
As weird as it sounds, thank you, for making me cry. I thought I had lost that ability 4 to 6 years ago. In addition I wish everyone involved good luck, better health, and that their life simply just becomes better.
Follow up. I just checked the patreon. EOLO is going through some shit rn.
Don't know when Book 3 comes out nor do I know the usual release schedule but uhh... It looks like if you're a supporter you can get chapter 26 and 27 right now. No clue when they'll release publicly as I am not a supporter and cannot read the full posts which may or may not include public release dates.
Ok, real quick and sorry in advance, but screw you for the sudden cliffhanger. Once again I'm sorry but that needed to be said as I've been looking forward to that reveal. (good thing I just need to wait a few days)
Anyways, 10/10 game. I love everything about it so far, lots of wholesome moments, quite a few sad ones too, lots of mystery and drama. Comedy's pretty great too. But I especially like how you've handled all the different mythological stuff too as well as the characters in general. There isn't a single character in this game that I don't find interesting in some way. Each of them are incredibly unique each with their own well-written pasts/stories and almost all of them seem to mesh fluidly into the main story as well either teaching you something about the world in general or just progressing the actual main story. Though that's technically always progressing. There's already a great deal of content in the game too and it's only just starting day 12 out of who knows how many. And 12 days doesn't even sound like a lot but these 12 days are packed full of content. Great game, love it so far and it's been immediately added to my list of favorites. Looking forward to more.
Holy shit. I just finished part 1 of Chapter 1 Episode 1 and dear god. That was fucking phenomenal. I was skeptical at first, everything I read all across the internet said this game was outstanding. I wasn't skeptical about that, I could tell it was gonna be good just from looking at it and playing Sicae.
But they also said it was very emotional. That is what I was skeptical about but after experiencing Emma's story and reaching the previously mentioned point in the main story… I shouldn't have been skeptical at all. Holy shit did that throw me through every emotion possible, even brought me to tears a couple times too either frowning or smiling.
I will definitely be finishing this one when it comes out same with Sicae. 10/10
That's called NTR and the vast majority of human beings in existence (roughly 99.99%) (me included) DESPISE that type of shit with every fiber of our being.
So the chances of that happening is so miniscule that it literally cannot be seen even by the most powerful microscope to ever exist.
Go look for different games, if you like that type of stuff.
OIALT was Carbdis' first game right? I'd view it as his skills developing over time then, especially if you're comparing it to Eternum. You can even see his skills develop in OIALT. The lighting changes, the scenes get longer and better, environments become more unique, etc, etc. Especially the scenes and lighting.
Eternum was made using everything he's learned from OIALT. And from what little I've played of Eternum so far, he's learned a LOT (Eternum's been pretty good so far, definitely an improvement)
