This is the last Minimalistic Jam because I hosted these game jams for fun and never planned to make it a long term thing.

(1 edit)

Sorry, but this game was removed from Minimalistic Jam 3 because in the rules it says "Your game must be made within the allowed time period" and this game was clearly made before the jam even started.

Here's a url to let you submit your game to the jam https://itch.io/jam/5708/add-game/280089?token=isnafrIpKnSsvom3ivAP2hzZDaI

The submission period for games ends today (9 am pacific time). I hope everyone had fun and enjoyed this game jam.

The one week rating and review period for games will start today. You will be able to rate each others games on 3 criteria: mechanics/gameplay, creativity, overall score. You will be able to see the voting results on July 23rd, 9 am pacific time.  This rating thing is just for fun, so please don't take it to seriously or get upset about what scores your game got.

The discord server for this jam will close two weeks from now on July 30th, 10 am pacific time. I'm closing it because this is the last Minimalistic Jam I will be hosting.

Yes

Sprites, backgrounds, and textures can have animations, as long as they follow the rules for the total amount of colors they can use.

Hopefully you can make 8 bit music work for your game because the guitar doesn't sound anything like 8-bit. It would be unfair if I said you can use guitar music while everyone else still has to use 8 bit music, sorry.

Having narration is allowed. The audio rules were only about music and sound effects.

Sorry, but the rules say "Your game must be made within the allowed time period.". If you just remake/change a game you're already working on, that would not be considered as something you made during the allowed game jam time.

The game jam is going to start very soon. Please check the rules because there have been some small changes to them over these past few weeks. You can see the rules here: https://itch.io/jam/minimalistic-jam-3 . Good luck and have fun!

The text color would count as one of your 10 colors.

Yes

Sorry for the confusion. I made the itch io page for this jam a while ago and completely forgot I had written that. There won't be a theme and I removed that text from the front page.

There won't be a theme. I feel that a theme would limit lots of completely new and creative game ideas.

CrowdForge is an online team building website. They have reached out to me to be the official the team building website for this jam.

Here's the link: https://crowdforge.io/jams/MJ3

It was pretty fun, though a little confusing at first because you need to learn how to do wall jumps to get higher up cubes instead of just trying to jump up.

Minimalistic Jam 3 will have a theme

I was planning to close this server down and not do any more jams but after listening to people I've changed my mind. There will be a Minimalistic Jam 3 from july 9th to july 16th. Here's the link https://itch.io/jam/minimalistic-jam-3 . By the way some rules have been changed so it'd be great to hear your thoughts on that.

I'm considering hosting a Minimalistic Jam 3, I'll post something in the forums this week with details.

Also, ratings are just for fun so please don't worry to much about them.

Not from me but it seems like some people who participated in the game jam might make videos. :)

I'm not going to do a live stream but I am planning to try to play through most of the games submitted.

Sorry, you can't use lighting because I didn't specify anything about it in the rules so it would be unfair to all the people who made their game without lighting. You can use shadows but the main color from them counts towards the color max. Good luck on your game :)

There are no restrictions on the ui can except the graphics.

You can have a fading transition because one of the rules allows there to be transparency.

Yeah

^^^ This is just a reminder so everyone is up to speed because certain things have changed slightly.

Yeah

Cool

Shadows are fine, keep it minimalistic though. :)

Okay, I'll add a hashtag.

That's fine. One of the rules is that "You can use transparency to some extent". :)

Great idea but I feel this jam is too small for a hashtag.

Well they don't look that bad. That was just a bad example.

Both wouldn't be allowed because when I say gradient I mean something like this . It Goes from one color to a different color and the two main colors (green and brown) count towards the 10 color max and if it's part of the sprite the two main gradient colors count towards the 2 color max for the sprite.

Maybe for like certain visual effects .etc

You don't need to include pixel noise, the rule is there to stop people from using pixel noise because pixel noise isn't minimalistic.
