On which platform did you try that mode? 

I have just tried it on my Android  quickly, and I do not get the error that you mention. Also, I don't know if it's specific with any character or in general. 

When its a day before from a spirit's birthday, you need "chat" with the spirit, in part of the conversation You will see a text highlighted in blue, depending on the spirit they can be different things. On their birthday, you need to bring them the object that they had told you about the day before.

I don't think it's a good idea that you can fuck Ku, already has a mate. But I support your idea that Ku should go around the forest and be able to dialogue with ku. 

It's good that it's lit up, but you feel like it's a lot of light when it's nighttime. but it's well implemented and thanks for this update and worrying about those details.
