A YouTube Channel on Game Feedback / Playtesting?

Hello I'm PixLiz of www.pixliz.com. I posted a question As a YouTuber and Blogger, How Can I Support Your Games?

The number one thing I noticed in the thread, and browsing other topics on the site, is the desire for play testing and honest feedback on games and projects.

What do you guys think about a YouTube channel that gives feedback on indie games and projects in the form of likes and suggestions videos by a gamer? Excluding the idea of getting your game posted on the channel, would seeing other indie games and projects receiving feedback be interesting and helpful to you as a game developer?

And then, if this is useful, what kind of video format would be best for a game dev that's watching a video about a game he/she didn't create? A full video of the entire game played through for the first time without a face cam that recaps the likes and suggestions at the end? A short concise video that shows clips of what the player liked and would make suggestions about in the video?

Please let me know your thoughts and thanks for reading.

Maybe try having both a full playthrough for the dev to watch, and a short video of clips from the game play.

The longer gameplay video is most useful to creator of the game, maybe with a facecam to see what you are expressing.

The short videos you can use as more of a "moral of the story" type discussion, with the game being used as an example, but with thoughts and ideas that can exceed the scope of the exact game in question.

I think I understand what you mean. Create short videos with clips of playtest that emphasizes what worked, why it worked, what didn't work and why it didn't work. Then expand upon those concepts for other game developers?

I tried looking for your channel on your itch.io profile page, but didn't see it listed. Luckily your channel name and profile pic seem to be the same for both your itch.io account and YouTube channel. Thanks for asking before posting a link though.

If you want to post a link, pick the one that best represents what a feedback video should be with the intention of letting other people in the thread evaluate and make comments about the feedback video style.

Hi! I browsed your website and wow! You are really taking this seriously! Already subscribed to your channel and will be waiting for your first video :D

As a dev that received many help from YouTubers and reviewers, even a video without any words and comments can be beneficial, watching the playthrough itself will provide a lot of information for improvements and bug-fixing. For the video style it's really up to you I think, but I do like watching the players' reaction while encountering certain events in the game, it's not necessarily a face cam, expressive voice will also do fine!

And thank you for noting my effort. For 2021 I've decided to take the year to go full throttle on a YouTube channel and supporting mediums that help showcase free indie games. 

Originally, I was just going to do a Let's Plays only channel. But, I knew that I also wanted to make something that would be beneficial to game developers. If feedback videos are valuable, I'll consider posting those as well. They wouldn't require anywhere near as much editing like what I was planning for the let's plays. You know. Graphics, sound effects, learning how to make my face cam fly across the video, etc. I'd also be able to recycle the feedback video by making a shorter one with clips that emphasized my likes and suggestions for the game that could be useful to other game devs.

I'm sure many developers will appreciate that! And the idea of having a feedback compilation is something I haven't seen yet (although I have seen not many stuffs haha), and that sounds great! 

I'm not sure if feedbacks and Let's Plays can happen at the same time, so you can get views from both devs and players. But that really sounds like a lot of extra work! Editing is tiring. So ya, do what you want, everything sounds good for me!

You might be right. Maybe feedback and Let's Plays shouldn't be on the same channel.

I've always found it inspiring and neat to see YouTubers play indie games, especially smaller amateurish ones because those reflect how many of us start out (or where we still are). I especially found inspiration in YT series such as 3kliksphilip's Game Making Journey Series. I think these feelings are common among the community based on the YouTube popularity of many more successful indie developers, such as Dani and Blackthornprod.
