Can I use gradient, shades or it must have only 3 colors?

Yes, you can! As long as the game uses three colours or less! I forgot to mention that shades do count as colours

I just wanna clarify something on my end. When you say shades do not count, that means I could use bright green and then dark green and it would still be "one" color?

Actually he said that shades does count. So bright and dark greens are 2 colors

AntShock is right, I said that shades do count, so if you used a bright green and a dark green, for example, on a sprite, it counts as two colours, not one!
