A Platformer Trial of Colors feedback

Hi guys! I am making a basic platformer game. With unique ideas, of course. ;) The player can change color and interact with the map depending on its color. While it may not seem that unique, the idea is presented in a few unique ways!

I would like some feedback on the difficulty, please.  For me, personally, it doesn't seem way too hard, but for people who aren't that great at platformers would probably rage-quit on it, xD. I would also like feedback on the level editor, and if there are any bugs. Please also suggest good ideas! :)

Hi Synzorasize! I must say, I'm really not good at platformers so I got stuck at level 3 haha. I can offer feedback with regards to other aspects of the game.

The idea of a color based puzzle is nice and you can play a lot with it. The controls feel nice as well, gives a good sense of control. Also, a level editor is an endangered species and seeing it in the wild was a pleasant surprise :)

One big suggestion is to have a different player sprite, maybe a different shape? It gets confusing with the colored square blocks. Also, I thought the music was a bit distracting. I think the art is nice and simple, but I do suggest having a bit more contrast in the colours.

Anyways, this was a solid game with its own personality and I wish you the best on its development. Have a nice day!

Thanks! :D It is fine if you aren't good at platformers! I did make the levels spike in difficulty in the middle so it is hard even for me, haha.

Thanks again, lol! I did follow a few tutorials about how to make a platformer and I got a few level concepts from my brothers and other people, but the rest was mostly my idea! Especially the level editor! I thought it would make my game stand out more since it had a level editor. :)

I will take these suggestions into consideration since I am bug-fixing right now. :) I did add an option to mute, though, which should be good enough for now. Lol, the player looks exactly the same as the tiles, I know, xD. I used the player sprite without the sparkle for the tiles which is why they look the same. I did try to differentiate between them using the sparkle but I will try to add more contrast soon. I also will improve the graphics, but I did some basic editing with the sprites to make them look more aesthetically pleasing. :)

Thank you again! :) And you too!

All the best!

I played up to level 12 as I'm clueless on how to make progress there...

The game has potential but it could use a lot of tweaking particularly the level design and item placement. The best example is level 9 where you're asking the player to get the item and land instantly when you can just place the item that turns you to a different color right before you land on the platform. I think that kind of placement can work.

Also, while there is no rule as to whether you can mix with no scrolls or with scrolls, in this case for a puzzle platformer, I advise you to have levels with no scroll. This is because it not only helps in your levels being shorter(which means it motivates players to play them) but it also means that you can simplify the level design so that it'd be easier to figure out what you're supposed to do.

Maybe you need to make levels that can visually teach the player how to play your game rather than giving a block text. You can look for Box Boy for reference as its a good example.

Also...and this is optional(including the entire feedback!) but maybe you can give some level of hint on what you're supposed to do in the sections? Some games like Box Boy have them and that can motivate players to play the game further.

And lastly...have a delay of the death animation. I just randomly restart without having a clue on what I did that caused it.

Overall, has potential. Don't give up easily and all the best!

Thanks for your feedback! :) I posted a tutorial so that should help! :D There are two different ways to complete it.

Lol, I rushed the levels too much. Originally I wanted to finish it by the Finally Finish Something 2021 jam but since I started in early January and the jam ended in late January, that really wasn't enough time, xD. I also made levels depending on what ideas I had, so the difficulty is also out of order. I rearranged them once when I was only on Level 11 but since I wanted to finish in time for Improve My Game Jam #14, I couldn't rearrange the last nine levels.

That is a good idea, lol! I don't think I will change the original levels but I can add new levels based on your ideas, sort of like a level pack. I only added scrolls to make it more interesting, though, and to fit more platforming content.

That would also work, haha. I will make new levels, though.

Hints are a good idea, too. I might include them on the most puzzling of levels.

Someone else asked for the delay, too, which I think I will add. Me personally, I don't really want to have a delay especially while speedrunning or something, so I will make it an option in settings! :)

Again, thanks for your feedback! :)
