An impressive entry! Really tight controls and good design. Well done!

Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback first and foremost. I'll try addressing the issues you mentioned.

Art- I'm glad you like it. I was very insecure about its quality but it's good to hear positive feedback.

Story - I really wish I got insight into this early in development as I would've changed a lot of content. A little bit of context first. I made the game's world for a dnd game for my friends but it ended abruptly due to various reasons. I wanted to make the game as an outlet to my worldbuilding itch and I lost sight of what makes a narrative game unique. This is why I gave a lot of exposition about the world through the characters rather than telling it through their personality. A mistake that I shall fix in my new project.

The chapters being unlocked was for returning players as you guessed. The way to get money is to talk to Ben (the mage in the robe) and find a way to knock the goblin out. I should've structured the introduction better. An amateurish error. If you wish, I can write a walk-through for future players who might get stuck.

UI/UX - This was definitely a weak point as a lot of the points you mentioned have credibility. With regards to the portraits, I initially planned for them to be much more detailed but because of time constraints and other issues, it was not doable by myself. Still, this is a very good lesson to learn and I deeply appreciate your detailed critique. Have a great day!

Very cool! I'd love to see what you do with it. And thanks for checking out my game! DE is a special game that inspired many haha.

Hello everyone! The final version of The Road to Draksten is here! I'd love to get some feedback on game feel, writing or whatever you'd like to comment on. Here's the link and I hope you enjoy it! https://wolfmakesgames.itch.io/the-road-to-draksten

This is really well written and you've certainly got that DE charm juxtaposed with the protagonist's horrible circumstance in your writing. I'd definitely be interested in a full release. One suggestion is to add some sort of skill mechanic that ties into the narrative. As he's an artist, maybe a few skills like Ideation, Meticulousness, Dexterity etc. that unlock unique dialogue/exposition. Although, that would take a lot of time.
Still, I'm looking forward to more!

Hey there! First of all, the art and your game page scream quality! That's a really good start. I like the retro vibe of the game and I love how the character model shifts with perspective. Interface feels tight. The execution is on point!

My only complaint would be the interface design. This may be just me but I haven't played the point-and-click games of yore (this has a lot of those Lucasarts games vibe). The number of actions feel unnecessary. All of them can be condensed into a single interact button. I get the idea of choosing the right action but doing it feels tedious. Especially when you have to open the panel, select the right action and then do what you want. This design choice is up to you.

All in all, it looks really good. You've gained a follower!

Oh wow, that sounds awesome! I'd absolutely love my classes if they asked me to play games for them.

Thanks for checking it out! The kid-friendly version is an interesting thought haha. I was inspired a lot by Disco Elysium and that led me down the 'strong language' path, but this is something I'll keep in mind for future games. Btw what is Language Arts? I haven't heard of this where I live.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hey Ellis. I thought the game was well polished but the bloom was too much imo. It was hard to look at the screen for long durations. I like the enemy variety but I would've liked to see something different. All in all, this is well done for a 24 hour game!
Here's the link to my game: https://wolfmakesgames.itch.io/the-road-to-draksten
Hope you enjoy it!

Filled the survey! I wish my college let me do a thesis on games :/

Hi there! Found your page via twitter. This game is really well polished despite the short size. Would love to see more content! Also, nice music!

So excited to try the new demo! I love the world building in your game. This makes me want to try out ren'py (if that is what you're using) and make some narrative based stuff myself. Good luck with the Steam release!

Hey Lorellaro, thanks for trying out my game and for the kind words!

The first bug is supposed to be a silly meta joke :P. Some of the dialogue tends to break the fourth wall and I thought this would add to that. The second one is something I'm still working on. A few other people have let me know about this bug, but I've been unable to recreate it on my end for some reason. I'm trying to look into it and I will definitely fix it once I understand what's happening. The last chapter is in the works and do consider a follow if you're interested. Have a nice day!

Hi there! Feel free to check out my point-and-click adventure, The Road to Draksten. I have three chapters out currently and I'd love to know your thoughts on it. Have a nice day!

Welcome to Draksten
Glass berries

Hey there! On first glance your game page looks really neat and intriguing.
1. No :/, but then again, I'm not good at platformers.

2. It started out well, the mechanics are well explained, but that tight corner with the spikes was a little unfair haha. The platforms are also well spaced, so I think the second part as you said is a little tricky.

3. I really like your color palette and the art. Todi looks intriguing. Also, nice animations.

4. As stated before, level design could use some work.

5. One thing I'd add is a little bit of background art that give a little bit of exposition about the world (coz world-building adds a lot of character to your game). Also, adding a different sprite for the downward part of the jump would be a nice touch.

6. The game mechanics are well done.

7. No bugs as far as I played.

All in all, quite an interesting looking game. Would like a more accessible design for noobs like me :P. Have a nice day!

This was really fun. And I love the art. Not just the game but the game site as well!

Thanks again!

Hey Button Cupcake! Thanks for the kind words! Life was certainly not easy during the development of the game (full time job + personal stuff) but I'm sticking with this to the end. Am looking forward to checking out Matry's Room and Hole in your wall when I get some time. Cheers!

Hi Matthew, this game looks really beautiful. It's impressive. I like the ship varieties but I wish there was an encyclopaedia of sorts to know more about the stories/lore behind the ships. Also, I was stuck at level 6. But, I will return to the game later. The letters' displacement in the main menu is too much imo. It should be easier to read. Big lol at the fiber glass. All in all, Good job!

Hey guys! It's been a while since I've checked out the game. And I'm super happy to see just how crisp it's become. I love the difficulty setting - it's perfect. But, I am not a new player. Looking forward to see what more will be added to the game. Have a nice day!

Hello everyone! It's been a long while since I've shared new content from my game. But, Chapter 3 is now out! Do share your thoughts, suggestions and bugs you might encounter either here or on the game page. This Chapter is much bigger than the previous two and I really appreciate any and all feedback. I hope you enjoy it and have a nice day!

Check out the game here - https://wolfmakesgames.itch.io/the-road-to-draksten

Greetings one and all!! I have returned from the long silence to share good news to all ye who are looking for more content! Chapter 3 - much bigger than the previous two is out now! And there's a world map now! Check it out!

Seriously though, this took a lot longer than expected. Life got in the way several times but I've kept at it slowly and steadily without losing too much of my sanity. And here we are. Please do note that I am just one guy working on this (music is done by TeknoAXE - link in game description) and I really appreciate all feedback - so don't be shy. Share your thoughts and suggestions for the game.

All Chapters are unlocked. If you are new to the game, welcome! I would recommend playing the older Chapters first. Returning players can just continue with the new Chapter.

What's next from here? If you reached the end of Chapter 3, then just gotta wait for me to finish Chapter 4. After that, who knows? I might continue the adventures of Jeremiah or I might start work on a different game. Time will tell. Till then, adios and take care!

PS : Music I recommend listening to. "Straight Lines" by VOLA.

Such a unique and calming game. Would love to see more elements added to the world. Well done!

Hey mikomoares, the concept of the game was really cool! It took me a few tries to understand what was happening but it got really tricky once more ghosts started popping up during the jumping minigame. All in all, would love to see more polish on this. Solid job!

Thank you!

Hey everyone! It's been a while since I've shared updates. A lot has happened personally and in the game's development this past month. I've been busy working on Chapter 3 and it's planned to be much bigger than both the previous chapters (at least art and dialogue wise). And there's a world map! Here's some art from the new Chapter. Have a nice day and stay safe!

Hey Ellisjames, this was a cool little jam game! Props to you for adding so much flavour with such simple shapes. I liked the movement and the level design. There were a good variety of enemies given the game size. The music was a bit loud, would have liked an option to adjust volume, but I like the low-fi music. It's nice to hear something calm while you're playing a game like this. Good touch with the trail renderers btw. The only big con for me is the parallax background, I felt a little motion sick after a while. Other than that, this was solid!

Found a typo! Idk if it's classified as a bug, but here it is.

I think giving players an option to choose a setting would be a good idea. Not just from an accessibility standpoint but also helps generate a hook so to say. For someone like me who rarely reads books, I found some of the phrases a little difficult to figure out but I am really drawn to some of the books mentioned based on just the phrases. And for someone who reads a lot of books, they might like the challenge of trying to guess and piece together famous quotes from books they can think of.

Am interested to see what you do with the game. Oh, maybe you could add more genres or categories based on famous authors? Cheers!

Hey! Can I just say that it's good to see the word "Project Gutenberg". Last time I've been there, I've read "The Turn of the Screw" for my Creative Writing Project in college and it was awesome to see so many free books there. I'm glad you are doing this to support the wonderful site!

So, visually and musically, this game is really good! The look and design feels unique and tbh, this would do really well as a Mobile game if you wanted to release it there. It felt a little overwhelming at first, but I settled into the rhythm of guessing and finding words and the font is lovely. The only feature I'd suggest, is maybe have a difficulty setting where on the lower ones, you can have a few letters already typecast. Other than that, this was really cool!

Thank you!

Thanks for letting me know!

Hey coinbirdface! I took a quick look at your game and at first glance, it looks quite polished! The music is intense and I like the vibe.

UI - It's pretty cool. I like the portrait and the dynamic design with regards to the navigation arrows and all the other fun stuff.

Combat - It felt a bit difficult to wrap your head around it but evetually I got into it. I think you could do with having slightly more enemies.

Loop -  The loop was engaging and fun. Unfortunately, I kept pressing A to restart when I died, but didn't work. Other than that, feels good.

Hey! I'd love to try Memories of East Coast, but the exchange rate is pretty bad for me. If you're ever planning a steam release, I'd be more that happy to try it!

Hey bobfox! Thank you so much for constantly giving such detailed feedback!

1. Yes, that was a slip up. I should add a continue button to Chapter 2.

2. Huh, I didn't really catch the loop there. Then again, the music isn't made by me so I'll try to adjust it but idk if the musician's license allows modifying content. I'll look into it.

3. Is this in the WebGL build? I've never had this issue before. Will look into it.

4. Once you get the ingot from Louis, you basically trade it with the peddler for some coin. You can go to the baker and buy a muffin with it. That's how it's scripted. But if you only did the blade part, then I'll look into the code about this.

5. Ah yeah, I initially thought that was being very lighthearted but I understand what you mean. I'll make the change.

6. There are a lot of Witcher references haha. Wild Hunt was the game that really made me fall in love with games and I've wanted to make games ever since.

I'm really glad you like the world. I originally made this world for a DnD campaign I play with my friends. I decided to make use of it for this game coz why not :D.

Thanks again and have a nice day!

Thanks Angel Star!

Hey Roomah Gaming! This was a cool meta and funny visual novel. I loved the sketchbook art in the background, the lo-fi music and just the vibe of the game. I love how there's a meaningful message at the end. Was very thoughtful! Btw, I got the Sympathetic and Romantic ending.
