Hey everyone,

As of today you can now install the itch.io app on the Epic Games Store as part of their new Apps initiative.

You can find it here: https://www.epicgames.com/store/en-US/p/itch-io

This is the same version of the app that you will get on https://itch.io/app. We haven’t made any major changes to the app to facilitate this new release. If you already have the app installed then you aren’t missing out on anything.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask below. Thanks!

Why did we do this?

They reached out to us a few months back about how they were exploring adding apps to their store. We thought it was a funny idea, but also a good opportunity to potentially expose a lot more people to itch.io, as the EGS has a pretty large audience.

How do updates work?

When you install the app on EGS it will actually download our own installer. It will use our own infrastructure to install the latest version and keep it updated completely independent of EGS. Updates will not be delivered through EGS (unless we need to update the installer). This means that if you want to update the itch app you just need to open it. It will also be installed onto your computer like any other piece of software, so you can use the “Add Remove Programs” functionality of your OS to uninstall the app. Once installed, you can remove the installer from EGS by uninstalling it there. It will not impact the system installation of the app.

Do I need to do anything?

Nope. This is just a new place for people to discover and download our app. Nothing about how developers or players access itch.io is changing. You can completely ignore this announcement!

Sounds good!

Sounds good! Congrats :)

When I download a game, why do I get the following prompt?

like itch. io API error(400):/ games/870935/uploads invalid game

Admin(+1)

That error means you don’t have permission to access that game’s files. Is this a game you bought?

No, in one event, I received the game as a gift from the platform, but I did not manage it any more. Do I still need to purchase the game as a gift before downloading it?

Now if only Epic supported Linux at least half as well as Itch does....

Very cool! I think this will be a win-win for everybody.

Sounds Very Epic (get it, epic like epic games)
