Have looked around, collected the coins, found the chest, activated the button under the water, but can't find what to do next. Help :D
After pressing the button under water, a green troll will appear a small distance away above the pond. Kill the green troll and wait for the button to appear in his place :)
the troll is non-aggressive, and my attacks do not work on him
Yep correct, whip him with your whip using right mouse button. Stand back a bit.
