Muted?

Whenever I play and I get far away from the character, because I want to look at the other island, for example, the game suddenly mutes forever. I must restart the game to get the sound back. What happened and can I get the sound back without restarting?

Developer

That sounds like a new bug. I have a few questions. Does it affect all sound or just certain sounds? Does this happen every time or just sometimes?  Roughly how far away do you need to move to make it happen? When you say "suddenly mutes" do you mean you can hear some sounds and everything suddenly stops? If you go into Freecam mode, by pressing C and moving away, and make it happen?

Sorry for all the questions, but these will help we work out what's going wrong.

Sorry, this will take a while. I can't force the bug to happen, and it doesn't happen every time I play. But... It does affect all sounds, and when I said suddenly mutes it means when I look at my player again, there is no more sound, not even when I go to my incredibly loud workshop. I'll update you when I find out more

Developer

OK thanks. I'm trying to work out the exact point at which the sound stops. When you say "look at my player again" do you mean

* you're coming out of Free Cam mode by pressing C (and the camera jumps back to the player)

* you're recentering on the player by pressing X

* you're manually panning back to where the player is using WASD/Mouse

When I manually pan back to the player. I also think it happened when I pressed X.  I am also very uncertain but my brain tells might it might have also happened when I came out of Free Cam mode.

Developer

OK all 3 then :)

Thanks!

Wowowowow... It just happened again, but this time, it just happened. I wasn't far away or anything and it just suddenly muted. I also pressed q at the exact moment it was muted, but that might just be a coincidence. So maybe the going away part had nothing to do with it muting. I am very confused...

Ok, I restarted it. Having pressed did nothing and it was just a coincidence. Going in and out of free cam did nothing either. Also, all of this might just be my computer being a jerk. If you are really stumped and no one else has this problem, it's probably my computer.

Developer

hmmmm. very strange. Sounds like it might be your PC. The next time it happens can you try pausing and then adjusting the game's SFX setting to see if you get anything please?

I already tried the game's SFX settings to fix it, it did nothing. Also, it turns out the muting just happens after a long period of time. So, it possible that the going away part had nothing to do with it and it was just a coincidence that the game happened to mute on the time that I panned away from my character. I am pretty sure now that it is just my computer because this doesn't seem like a problem that could happen in the code and no one else has reported this bug. My computer is just a a-hole I guess.

Developer

hmm. That's a shame. Have you tried latest drivers?

Uhh... Not sure what that is im a loser. I don't know much about computers wow what a loser am i. Actually, just realised I kept saying computer when I really mean hand-me-down laptop, I do that out of habit. So... I'm not sure if there is anything I or you can do :(

P.S. My computer laptop is an Asus Aspire S7 with a Core i5

Developer

If you go here you can get the latest sound drivers. https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers

Put in your serial number of model number, look for the Audio Driver, download it and run. It should auto-install. It might help?

(1 edit)

I've installed it. What do I do know? Do I need to extract the files first? Then do you need to do something else for it to work? :((( Why do i suck so much

Developer

If you've installed it you may need to reset the PC for it to take effect. Then that should be it. If it doesn't work.... :( I'm out of ideas, sorry
