Ragequitters are ruining this game

As the title says, not really much to add. Lately I only manage to complete 1 game out of 4. I've come to the point to write down all the quitters I meet so I don't play with them again. I have a feeling the majority of ragers are kids who just saw a video online and thought the game was cool, only to get their asses beaten since they don't even care to learn the game, and leave after you are 4 hits in a  combo.

cowboy players when someone doesn't want to watch them do 4 separate infinite combos and then shoot them with an unavoidable gun the moment they cant block anymore

Don't play with people that turn off DI and burst then, it's pretty easier than crying

To be honest, I quitted my first online game, because I couldn't see any control on my side for a few turns, and saw the "our game is stuck" message. I really thought that our game was bugged 馃槄

Yeah, it's getting pretty bad.

Regardless of the character I play, this almost always happens. I like all of the main three, and it seemed just a couple days ago that the turn-based nature of the game was making it less toxic than other fighting games. But all of the characters have moves that often make the other person just say "fuck this" like opening with lightning strike or extending your combo with quick slash. I always stick around just because I want to see what crazy thing will happen next, and I thought that was the main draw of the game, but apparently not. I'd rather just play the game with friends now if everybody else will quit out over a 3 hit combo, and I'm ok with that being the scope of the game's multiplayer since its so experimental.

At least the game doesn't punish you for disconnecting other than mocking you in front of the other player, I much prefer that to games that ban you for having bad internet.

so true! (i cant even play the game because it get stuck on the engine logo)

Personally I take a rage quit as a mark of honor. Its not really a fixable problem (you cant force people to continue playing... at least not without breaking some cybersecurity laws) so I say we might as well laugh.

You could try looking into matchmaking, theres a discord called yomi arena where you can matchmake with other players on ranked, basically no leavers there.

Same thing. Not much pleasure to play when opponent can't be polite and at least let you end it yourself if you are losing. For me that a principle, while mostly people are just surrender and leave. This is not the biggest problem of the game, but players need to be a little more polite, and in anyways fighting with somebody smarter makes you start imagining the ways to win, but those guys really don't wanna learn.

As a new player, the reason is obviously combos.

If I've been waiting for a few minutes to be finally be able to make a move, and then the other player lands their free completely unavoidable hit and I'm suddenly 40 frames behind again, why shouldn't I quit?

At that point I'm not playing the game anymore, so there's no reason to bother.

Seriously though, recovery times in this game are just waaay too long considering the fact that the advantaged player has plenty of time to figure out how to sustain their combo and the disadvantaged player has zero counterplay besides being able to slightly nudge the direction in which they're juggled.

Also I'll quit immediately if the other player picks wizard, there's no reason I should have to put up with that nonsense.

You can escape 1 combo almost guaranteed with burst (unless u get read hard).

Also DI is not a slight change in speed/direction, good DI drastically changes combo routes to the point that u can force them to drop the combo early and frametrap/setup instead bc they can't follow it up.

If you just leave the match the moment u get hit u'll never learn how to escape combos (which is a mindgame by itself).

You could just write "I don't know how to play and I don't want to learn"

Today I had the same person play 4 games against me (EU server), while he kept changing his name ( monkey, cat, etc...). He quitted all games made me waste time and he's not punishable. The other 2 games I had ( NY server) went a little longer, but they eventually quitted too. If you can't bother to learn the game, just don't play. This isn't a fighting game where you can mash random buttons and win. That said, this is a fun game, when you actually get to play, so until actions are taken against quitters I'm just gonna stop playing...

Try joining the Yomi Arena server. It has a built in matchmaking system with elo running on a custom client. Leaving a game early causes the game to count as a loss. Losing you Elo points. The players are also better there and way more willing to learn the game. You'll get your ass handed to you for a bit, but once you get a grasp on the above average level of play you'll be having fun, just like you'd hope you would in the official public lobbies.
