Thought id set up another thread/topic, to be able to quickly post info and keep you up to date on the recordings and other happenings.
Sorry for the delay of Ep3 and the rest of the recording, just getting over a cold again at the moment and poor sleep, but fear not i will have EP3 done before April hits, and 4-5 hopefully done by the start, i would record ep3 as i am at the moment if it was needed desperately, but i would rather my brain be at max to be able to help and voice things like usual, il be back to it mighty soon
That's actually kinda sad you could have made that optional cuz ppl like me are so broke they don't have a cent in their PayPal account loool seriously tho I lost hope of getting zortch cuz of it being a paid game but then once I got it for free I was able to enjoy the full version without worries and I made a simple cheat table and found 2 unused weapons! A rocket launcher and a railgun even found the unused ammo addresses for those it's up to you though to make it optional or not or maybe decrease the price of 5 bucks not many have that as 1 buck here in Egypt equals 30 EGP
I'm glad those still work - I'm not sure how unfinished I left them (leaving in unused guns seem to be becoming a habit 馃
making smaller games for less money seems like a good idea
in a way Zortch is just testing a waters in this regard: if everything fails I'll probably just keep on making (smaller) freeware stuff and tell people to buy a copy of Zortch if they want to support me
it's tricky: it would be fine to just have a donate button - but then I would want to give donators something extra - but then that is pretty much just buying a game 馃
(i'm afraid same is true in hungary - the least of peoples worry is to buy games -- 5 bucks is about 2000 HUF which used to be the price of budget games -- but experience tells me that most fellow hungarians don't care about my games anyway - even for free)
your unused weapons seem pretty finished just unused they work like expected and almost flawlessly they do damage and they are pretty powerful tbh I just wonder how do you keep unused weapons all the time lol also dam at least you have 2 Egyptians who care about your games and even make trainers for them xD
you could note everything you did in a personal notepad file if you are working on something big it will help you remember what you did and might help you in the future if you stumble upon problems (I do this when working on trainers or cheat tables or even playing games when I need to for example minecraft when I am in the nether) also you could add them in some sort of expansion pack we dont want unused weapons all the time and you could put them in very hard secrets that aren't easy to get and the ammo icon maybe? also I noticed you are invincible when you are controlling a rocket from the rocket launcher (alt fire) I hope that was intentional but kinda weird gives you time to think about what to do when you are low on health and could possibly help you kill enemies from a far faster which is kinda OP even when hiding in vents lmao
oh I do have notes .. i'm on notepad file 30 or so.. somewhere at line 12249 .. and they are not necessarily in sequence either - sometimes I just write things in the middle.. and I can't help it: I lost track of my notes long ago 馃様
but that is just the thing - game design is always about making choices .. but there is never a good choice there is always a tradeoff:
e.g. you probably want to know if you get attacked while guiding the thing - but it's simpler to stay invincible -- but that is easier to exploit and makes things too easy -- in the end the simplest solution is to remove this feature outright - but then what to replace it that is useful and not boring? .. it's always a mess 馃様
I thought I was being original and then realized that is probably where my subconscious got it 馃
(but there is one letter difference of course)
strangely enough I started the game 3 years ago and made sure the name is not taken (like for Guthood)
but since then someone else came up with another character called Zortch (serves me right for taking so much time I guess)
but I guess if there can be two Dukes then there can be two Zortches as well 馃
it's just strange to me because horizontal is dependent on the screen width
so on a widescreen monitor the default 60 vertical fov should be the 90 horizontal
which I thought was the minimum desired fov (and also it's the least deforming one)
maybe all other games set horizontal fov with their sliders and there is a trick to it I don't know about? 馃
(anyway I couldn't find any good explanations or tutorials on the subject)
I love old computers, so I tried the game on some older hardware. It works great on a 2007 notebook with 4 GB of RAM and a core2duo CPU. On a ~2000 XP (originally Win98) Notebook with Pentium III 500GHz, 256 GB RAM it nearly works I think... I have all 3 loading screens and music (loading., loading models, loading..), then it crashes with "Zortch.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.". The RAM is fine, maybe it is the vram (4MB) or the OpenGL feature set. This really show, how optimized the engine is 馃憤
it probably just ran out of memory 馃
the minimum ram needed is about 1GB ( maybe less, it uses about 260 MB )
the minimum specs I tested on was a Asus Eee PC 1000H with WinXP
doubt it would affect it much - I mean every steam release seem to be pirated on day one - we don't even a chance to compare 馃
things are beyond crazy anyway: every single russian seems to be a curator on steam 馃槄
and they are mostly interested in reselling keys - at least the pirates are doing it for free 馃
