Hello dev and community, when playing Ranger I was surprised to see that strafe does not activate over sleeping or unaware monsters. Is that a bug? In my opinion it should activate, I mean, Legolas would attack sleeping orcs for sure...

But I knwo this game is very well thought on its details, so if there is a good explanation for not activating, I'd be happy to know

Tx!

During the RF3 development, most players agreed that strafe attack hitting sleeping/unaware monsters was a bad thing for the player.

Oh, I see! Thanks.

I guessed that was the reason, but I'd prefer if my strafe attacks did trigger on sleeping/unaware enemies. It doesn't help that an enemy can become aware and attack in the same turn, so sometimes you're strickly worse off because an enemy was 'unaware'.

I am of the opinion that scenario (Enemy A becoming aware, alerting Enemy B, and Enemy B being able to move) is a bug. It was not the case in previous versions.

An option to allow strafe to target unaware or sleeping enemies would let people choose what they prefer.

@petercordia that was my impression as well. But we did not experience the "other side", meaning, strafing unaware monsters when we did not wanted to

I think that I'd prefer to hit unaware enemies as well. I find that using a burst of SP to strafe down single enemies is DEX classes version of freeze - it makes it trickier when you need to get aggro first. Sometimes I am strafing and sleep bombing and do want to keep sleeping enemies from attacking, but that seems like a minority of cases.

I do value to exception for 'deep sleep' enemies, but I think that's the only case where it helps. It should be possible to keep that very special case.
