Tax Client Support Ticket (8173)

itch.io support Ticket(182893)

Hello,

I am writing here to ask for help regarding tax validation after going through the official channels mentioned in the community rules.

I submitted my tax validation documents on December 28, 2023.  I have not received a reply from the support email since I last followed up January 5, 2024 asking about the status of the ticket. The status is still showing as "pending validation" after 2 weeks.

For context, I am a foreign (non-US) developer. My first tax validation was successful, but I re-did the interview on a manual form on the same day (December 28, 2023) to include the TIN (tax identification number). This was to indicate that I am based in Switzerland, and Switzerland and the US have a tax treaty to avoid double taxation.

I also have requested to cancel the payout a number of times, but the payout is still under review. Support team had said that the payouts would not go out if the tax validation status is still pending.

I would like to ask (1) why the tax validation is taking a long time despite my first validation being updated in 3 days, and (2) why the tax validation is still "pending".  The only difference between the first and second form was the inclusion of the TIN. I also emailed support if I was missing anything or if they needed more information and have not gotten a reply.

Thanks in advance

Hello! Did you get this issue resolved by now? I was having a similar problem but filed the same form on both itch.io and Steam in the same day; On the Steam side, I have to provide additional proof of identification (scans of government ID docs), but the process is already done by now. Here on itch I haven't got any feedback beside the pending status on my Tax Information page, and I believe both Valve and itch are using the same third-party company to process these kind of tax administration.

Hello!

So this is a yes and no.
They have validated my form but the withholding is still at 30%. Even though I have provided everything they need to see that Switzerland has a tax treaty with the US including the TIN (Tax Identification Number). Now I don't know if the 30% are accurate or not, but I have not gotten a reply from the Itch support nor the tax support on that matter or about my questions either.

So it only is partially resolved

Thanks for the reply! I have also contacted support regarding my problem after reading yours. Hopefully we'll get both issues resolved quickly!
