How does my pixel art look?

I'm back in this section of the Itch community after many months because I have decided to seek some thoughts on my art

So, how appealing is this image of what my commercial game will look like?  What should i change?

(NOTE: Backgrounds are far from final + I'm still actively trying to lessen the overwhelming red in this image)

Now, compared to before, the image is a lot less bright, has more background elements, has gray elements, etc.

I also changed the sprite so the legs are more clear, and made the outline on the sprite dark red instead of deep black.

So, i'd like some feedback on this, how does it look?

If you want to maintain a red feel without repeating the same red over and over just less saturated, consider something called "Hue Shifting". By moving your highlights closer to orange shades and your lowlights/shadows closer to purple shades you'll find you get a lot more variation while maintaining the "main" color feel.

This is actually a really great idea, thanks!

This color palette seems tough to work with because it's so limited when trying to show numerous details. In this case, might need to go simpler, like 1 bit games.

It is a bit tough in this stage where the screenshot is from, though as the game goes on, there will be more color opportunities other then just red
