Alright, the next devlog is coming soon!
In the meantime, here's another photo and some gameplay footage, You might notice some things! https://imgur.com/a/QWFdDv5
The next devlog should be within the next month. I’m nearing the end of the state machine code saga and soon moving onto finishing the character moveset, working heavily on the prologue and more!
I am currently making some more music for this game too! So far I’ve made a track called “Remembrance” for the prologue and I am actively planning out tracks for the dialogue part of the prologue, the actual first area, the “Maroon Town” inside the first area, the second area, etc.
Hey! I’m still working on moving my player code into a Finite State Machine, it’s going slow but progress is moving along bit by bit. After I’m done with that, a lot more progress should rampantly get done.
I have completed a music track for the prologue section, and did some stuff with the prologue scenery/layout too, I’ll share those in my next devlog.
I’m pretty sure you know me from Dreams, but I don’t completely recognize you from your itch page, what’s your Dreams username?
So I recently started development of my first commercial indie game, and I think the progress is going pretty well right now! However, I'm here to ask for feedback on how the gameplay looks and how the visuals look so far, as I wanna make sure this precision platformer X adventure/metroidvania game is going in the right direction, because if it's not. I wanna make adjustments as soon as possible, so what do you all think of how it looks as of now? Thanks!
(video resolution may need to manually be adjusted, recorded using Windows Game Bar so resolution may also look a bit off from that too)
(top of the screen is placeholder blank art)
the jam ended a day or two early apparently? That sucks. I was planning to play each game ahead of the final day and then rate them all on the last day in mass but I guess I can’t rate them anymore.
I’m still playing all these games, I may have only gotten to officially rate about 50% of them but I still want to play all of them regardless. I’m sorry I couldn’t get to half of you in time, next time I’ll make sure I’m not so busy and can prepare to play up to 100+ games
My game is kind of made for speedrunning, so you could play that!

I’ll get to yours relatively soon
(random tip though: you should rename your channel to something more unique other then “Game Jam Speedruns” with slightly incorrect grammar if you want your videos to be spread around a bit more, maybe something like “GJRuns” or just your itch profile name would work)
This game needs more ratings, its really fun:
Rate Shiftscape by Dragonsproutling for Acerola Jam 0 - itch.io
I will be updating this as I play through a lot more games, but so far, i got a few shoutouts!
1: Shiftscape
This game probably has the most creative idea out of the entire jam, and not only that, but the puzzles/gameplay, atmosphere/visuals and music is great too!
I really hope this gets top 10!
This game is a really neat game unlike the others in the jam that emits vibes of Mandela Catalogue sometimes, but is still its own unique thing! I highly recommend it.
3: Fish Styx
This is a very chill game, this gets my seal of approval :)
I'd like to remind everyone that I will be playing any games found in this thread: Show me your games, and I’ll rate them! - Acerola Jam 0 community - itch.io so if you want me to play your game, and possibly be in my highlights, go there, but be sure to play my game too!
Here’s my game! https://itch.io/jam/acerola-jam-0/rate/2582188
I’ll get to yours before the end of the jam, I got a queue of like 50 to play 😅
Thabk you for the feedback!
I probably should've added a small tutorial or a few more prompts. and the speed of the controls definitely could've been toned down a bit (playing my first game "Monochromia Classic" again after making this one definitely makes me realize the controls here are pretty fast)
This is a really fun game! The gameplay was really fun and is the highlight, this can be used for a full game!
I also got a pretty good score!:
I do got one pretty big critique though, and that's the presentation/graphics
This game is supposed to take place in the future where the human race is pretty much extinct except for you and half-human-half-robot killing machines, but the atmosphere does not really convey that at all
You spend the game on a flat-gray map in the middle of a bright blue sunny sky, and that just does not convey "apocolyptic setting where last man on earth fights while taking down as many killing machines with him" at all.
And in addition to that, the actual enemies are just pretty basic geometry, and do not look anything close to what a half-human-half-robot killer machine would look like, and it kind of breaks a bit of immersion because you realize your just shooting at squares and circles
So for your next game, I think you need to spend a bit more time focusing on conveying a proper atmosphere and setting, it is quite important.
Everything else is pretty good though, so this gets an alright 7/10 from me!
Thank you for your feedback.
There is a reset game mechanic somewhat in the form of pressing P to reset to the last checkpoint by the way
I do agree with the funkiness of the wall jumps and the fact some parts are a bit too difficult, though I dont think there are really any pixel perfect jumps
If you're referring to what I think you're referring, those small jumps that start in Room 4 and return in the first chase and last chase aren't really pixel perfect jumps, it's really just jumping and pressing dash at the same time
Also, i'll remember to make damage zones more visible in the future, thanks for pointing that out.
