"I thought there was no gold in this game"

Why should Ines say "I thought there was no gold in this game"? She knows that the item is the only gold in this game because uncle Lee told her "There's no other gold in this game". Is this a contradiction?

I parsed it as a defiant statement: since everyone (but Lee) told her there was no gold, when she finally gets it she says "who said there was no gold in this game?" and of course (in typical Lee fashion) there's actually no gold in the game since the coin is only gold-plated.

Makes sense, thanks!
