Hi, I started to create a thread on this asking for feedback, but I removed it before anyone responded because I felt the page wasn't quite ready yet, and I was still thinking things through on some things. But I feel that things are more sorted out now, and I am now back to ask a very specific question about this particular game. It's...

Is the price and the pricing model to my game good?

Here is the game in question, called Stepping Stone Jack: Director's Cut: https://themetalcarrotdev.itch.io/steppingstonejack

For some context, I will say that I want a lot of people to try my game, so I want to make it accessible. I want to make it where most people, if they really want to play the game, are still able to, and aren't too restricted by things like budget.

So I just wondered if you thought the price was fair for a game like this that has 40 short to moderately sized levels, and if, upon reading my intentions for the product here, if you think I went with the right model of pricing (ie, it being a paid game with a set price, rather than a Name Your Price game, or etc).

For some additional info, I've seen it take others about 60-70 minutes to complete the game. I myself can complete it faster, but as the developer, I think I have a bit of an advantage, where I can speed through it a bit faster. So if someone were to ask me about length of game, I'd probably tell them about 40-80 minutes?

When it comes to other suggestions on the page or the game, you can make them too if you want. However, some of the larger suggestions on large features I've already received, haven't been implemented just yet due to myself being a solo dev and some features taking a lot of time.

Hi,

Having play-tested your game before, I think the price could be dropped by $1.00. You're up against a market that is very competitive where some developers charge the same and has slightly better art and smoother game mechanics. Video games are very visual so if you are not capturing people with graphics first then, you are mostly at a disadvantage and game players are mostly very cheap and there is a business mindset disconnect. Most developers do not want to invest in proper assets or contractors but want game players to invest in their game.

It's not always about the amount of levels or content, it is about the presentation. Your game has to look fun for people to want to give their money and unfortunately they will not know the fun until they play it.

I believe with some better art assets and some more polish, this game could be priced at $5.00. I deeply believe games should be priced higher to keep the value of art sustained but I will keep it relative to your question at hand.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

I feel it does help, and I'll keep your input in mind.

I decided to listen to your advice, and drop it $1.

Awesome! Wishing you some great sales ahead :)

So, I actually feel I've gotten the advice I was looking for. I dropped the price by $1, and I plan for any future added content to this game to be free.

I'll let everyone know if there's anything else I need feedback or a second opinion on. (There will surely be something.)
