Can you post more than once in "Release Announcements"?

Obviously, I don't want to spam the "Release Announcements" several times with the same post. That would be annoying. It seems to be the case that "Release Announcements" is more for the first time you announce your game, that's most of the posts I see there. But, a couple posts seem to be about major updates.

Is it okay to post in there after updating the game?

I don't know if this counts as an update but I got a little too excited and posted my game to itch (and in "Release Announcements") without a great description/pitch for what the game is. I recently revamped all the art and updated the description to better promote my game demo. Would it be okay to post in there again now? Or should I wait until I've updated the game itself?

Thanks in advance for answering my questions!

A game can only be released once at a place. There is no agreed upon defintion what constitutes a release or the release status - not on Itch, which is a self publishing platform. Some understand it to be the date of first upload. Some the date when it is done. Some when the game reaches version 1.0. But people do not even agree upon how to number their versions.

On a professionals only platform (any game console and Steam) there is a fixed release date. The date after which the game does no longer count as beta/in development/early access or whatever and is available to the general public. If it were a physical item, it would be the date after which the stores are allowed to sell it.

If you have major updates, make a major update devlog. https://itch.io/devlogs/major-update

Not many people read those announcement threads. Go a few pages back and you will see that most posts have like 20-40 views. And those views do not translate to views on the project. Those are only views of the thread.

Thank you for explaining this to me so thoroughly! I will try to remember to keep my devlog updated.

If your game has changed significantly and you have new things to write about, then it's okay to post again if it's been a while. Just don't overdo it.

Thank you for answering my question! I'll wait a little bit before posting in there again.
