As you might have already noticed, version 2.4 was released yesterday. Instead of introducing new features and rules, it focuses more on clarifying some unspecified points in the rules and fixing those rare typos and mistakes left after about five years of development. It’s not the only thing I’ve been working on regarding ItDR this year though. Let’s see what projects are in the works currently.
Two booklets of the setting guide (Player’s Guide and Referee’s Guide) will contain general information on the world that was created during the years of playtesting. The first booklet is mostly complete, while the second one still needs additional testing before being ready for the public release.
The Player’s Guide will contain a brief geographical overview, a list of major religions and cults, as well as people and cultures that inhabit the world. The characters’ origin will determine their knowledge about the world as well as their starting languages. 14 new character Features (most of them limited to specific cultures) will bring the total count of available Features to 30, and 28 new Backgrounds will expand the choice for the character’s backstory to 36. Some optional rules, such as different coinage around the world, and horse breeds and their use in combat will also be included here.
The Referee’s Guide will focus more on describing the lay of the land, its countries, towns, and factions, as well as providing encounter tables and possible adventure ideas for different regions of the world.
An introductory module is being worked on currently as well. It is planned for release along with the setting guide to help with the introduction of new players to this yet-unknown world.
