Game available now

https://starrainarts21.itch.io/antarctic

Dev log 1

Hi guys, not so long ago I announced our next project on twitter called Antarctic which is a interactive, decision making visual novel that focuses on the horrors, deaths and mystery that Kevin (the main character) needs to face as he is working as a security guard in a secret research centre in the most loneliest continent on earth.

Progression

I have done a lot of thinking  with how I am going to be telling the story as well as how I am going to portray the characters within the game. I  have already made a lot of progression within the game itself and are continuing to release screenshots on what I have done. As you can see by the pictures I have already completed the art as well as some little pieces of dialogue, I will start developing our characters as we progress with the game and try to make them as interesting as possible.

Peace out and remember to not give up.

Just curious: Who is 'we'?

Sorry I meant "i"

Are you certain you listed your Twitter handle correctly?? It returns null.

Its fixed now sorry about that

Dev log 2

Hi, Guys, this is a short update, I have recently made a lot of progress in terms of the characters in the game. As you can see this is one of the characters that you will meet as you play as a bodyguard in this secret facility. I do not want to spoil some of the details regarding this character, however, I will say his name is Antonio.

Dev log 3

Hi guys, its been a few days of consistent progression, I just want to show you what I have been doing lately

Progression

I have made a lot of progress in terms of character development and art  within the game as you can see I have made two characters (Antonio and Michelle)  which will be influenced based on the experiences they have had within the game. The decisions you make will influence these characters, this means that they can either help you or despise you or not really be interested in you based on what you say. Of course there will be more characters coming along that will serve the story.

We have also created new rooms and areas the player could explore such as hallways, basements and windows (more areas will be created for exploration)

These are only not completed yet.

Hallway

Storage room

You will have the ability to explore windows and other small parts of the research centre

You will have the ability to delve into Kevin's mind and what he makes of every situation and character within the game (this will fill up as the game progresses)

I have also managed to successfully complete an interaction with the player and another character (these interactions will influence the story based on the decisions you make )

What am I working on right now

Right now I am working on the storage room, as you can see I have successfully completed adding all the assets and now will implement the code. The storage room as well as every other room serves the story.

That is all I have to share right now I will keep updating the dev log as the game progresses

Dev log 4

Hey, guys, I have made a lot of progression since the last dev log, I am keen to show it to you now.

Progression

I have successfully completed the storage room layout within the game, everything from the assets to the dialogue has been implemented, the storage room will be an exploration element within the game that will also serve some unique challenges to the player.

I have also made a new animation that was implemented in the storage room

https://media.giphy.com/media/TH5lqMlb4HSDtfGujg/giphy.mp4

So far I have completed 2 rooms in the hallway and I have been making progress with the computer room (on the right with the arrow)

Computer room

This is the computer room, It's not finished however I am very close to finishing it. I just to implement the dialogue for this character as well as other features.

There may also be some changes to the music that has been implemented within the game, I hope to go for some unique relaxing music. If anyone knows anyplace where I can find some amazing sinister music for this game, comment below.

That is all I have to share right now, I will post a new dev log soon.

Thank you.

Dev log 5

Hello people of the internet , it has just been another week of great progression with Antarctic.

Progression

I have just completed the computer room layout which will help to introduce another character named Hebrew. This layout will give the player the option to talk to this character  as well as go back to the previous layout.

I have created two layouts alone for this entire room. The first layout is the picture above and the second layout is the interaction you have with this character in the room. The "talk to Hebrew" button will take you to the second layout.

Character interactions will not be repeated, for example after interacting with the character the option to repeat the conversation again will not be there. (the option maybe there if there is extra dialogue the character can express)

What am I working on right now?

Right now I am working on the art for the Office layout (not Finished) . This is the last layout for the Hallway, after when I complete the office layout, the outside will be developed which will include other buildings within the base, new characters to meet and the ability to explore the dark lonely landscape.

That is all I have to share right now, I will come out with a new Dev log soon.  Bye

Dev log 6

Its been quite of week of progress this week

Progression

I have successfully completed the office layout, which did not take that long as its not entirely finished yet. As you can see there is nothing to do in this room. (which will be changed of course)

The reason why I half assed the office room was because I was more excited to draw the outside world of the game. As you can see the Map shows the vast amount of locations the player can explore outside the base. These locations will serve the story as well as provide thrill and mystery.

What am I doing right now?

I have successfully drew the map and completed the inside of the building  and now working on the base. The base will display the entrance as well as a small outpost. The player can leave the base or enter the outpost.

That is all I have to share right now. Bye

Dev log 7

Hey guys I have a lot of stuff to share with you in this dev log. I also have an very important announcement to make.

Progression

I have gotten up to alot this week, I have already completed the development of the base and it has already been implemented into the game. As you can see below this is the first thing the player would see once they leave the building. They will be surrounded with a wall and will be given options to either go outside of the wall or go into the small outpost on the side. More outside segments will be made within the game, I have also created some snow that will fall. This was done using Construct 2 in built particles system which allows you to easily create particles such as snow, water etc.

I have also made some changes to the music. This was done to portray more of a sinister yet beautiful atmosphere in this game. These are some of the soundtracks that have been using so far for the outdoor places and the indoor places. These soundtracks have been mixed with other sound effects within the game.

What am I doing now?

Right now I am working on the outpost layout which just needs some colour. After that we will implement the art within the game and work on the dialogue and character within the outpost layout.

Important Announcement!

On the 12 of July I will be going on holiday. Unfortunately this event will delay Antarctic progression for 1 week. The game will continued once I comeback which will be on the 20th of July.

Dev log 8

Back again with another dev log after a 1 week break. I have a shiton of stuff to share to you despite the break.

Progression

Despite going on holiday for a week I managed to get a lot done before and after the holiday. I have successfully completed the outside of the base which took a little bit of time as I had to focus on what the landscape will look like once the player encounters it for the first time. I put a lot of time and effort in creating the visuals for this layout as well as adding sound effects that would portray a sinister atmosphere outside . In this layout the player will have the option to go to outpost which will allow the player to interact with another character as well as have the option to explore the wintry abyss.

I have also successfully completed the outpost layout which gives the player the ability to interact with the character named Sage. Sage will help you explore the map as well as allow you to get to where you need to go in order for the story to progress (Yes I have done a whole lot).

The cool part is amount of places you can explore, as you can see the map offers an array of places that you can explore. From the dangers of Uter trailing to the creepy Kramer forest. You do not need to abide by the story, you can fully explore the locations for yourself.

Yes! A demo version of Antarctic is coming

A demo version of Antarctic will be coming. I will be releasing more information about the demo version as I make progress with the game. The full complete version of the game will come with a whole host of features compared to the demo however pricing has not been discussed yet, more information about pricing and the demo version will come soon.

What am I doing right now?

I am now gonna be creating the entire Antarctic world starting with the "Camlo area" which you can see in the map above. Each location in the map contributes to the story and yes the game has multiple endings that will be decided depending on the decisions you make. All I can say is that the one week holiday has only bumped my motivation up.

Dev log 9

If you guys have read the previous dev log, then you must have realised that I recently came back from a holiday. However that has not deterred me from making alot of progress with Antarctic. In fact my motivation for this project has been an all time high ever since, this is probably because I have been following the checklist and have not been burning myself out.

 Progression

I have now been creating the locations for the map. Camlo Area is the first location that I have successfully completed and I am now working on the Granmno Port.

Camlo Area

The Camlo area is a meet up place that is near the Granmno Port, this layout will give you the ability to meet another character that you will need to help.

I have also been working on some promotional material for Antarctic, as you can see I created a twitter banner for my profile which will advertise the once you visit my profile. By the way my twitter is @starrainart. I also made some changes to the story to make the game less congested and more achievable to make.

What am I doing right now?

I have just finished the Camlo area Location and now almost finished the Granmno port. As you can see the only things I need to add on the Granmno port layout is the character and the dialogue then I am done with that and after I will probably work on the Keynes Location.

Dev log 10

Hey guys I am back again with another Dev log. I have planned to make a lot small changes on how the game pacing will be as well as how the game story will be presented.

Progression

In this week I managed to complete the Granmno port Layout, as you can see all dialogue and character within this layout has been implemented. This section of the game will allow you to travel to Keynes which is located on the other side of the lake. Timothy will be there to take you so he can have some protection while he is travelling.

We have also successfully completed the next layout which handles the travelling aspect of the game. In this layout I decided to make use of royalty free images on the internet rather than working tirelessly to create new art (the royalty free art is of course better than my art) .

Royalty free images.

https://pixabay.com/

What am I doing right now?

I am now creating the next location called Keynes, this location is a cave that will serve a large part of the story. Right now I have successfully completed the art and written the scripts. The only thing I need to do in this layout is implementing the scripts within the game. I usually write my script using google drive as google drive allows you to edit documents anytime anywhere.

Dev log 11

Hey guys I have decided to post my Dev logs every few days instead of posting them on Friday.

Progression

I have made a lot of progress this week, however this dev log will just focus on the marketing preparation I have been working on. I have managed to successfully create my game page on Itch.io which will display the information about the game as well as the game itself. This is the only marketing tasks that I have been doing as I have been working hard on my game. I will update this dev log again to show you guys some new things that I have added within Antarctic.

Dev log 12

Lets just get right in

Progression

So in dev log 10 I said that I was working on the Keynes location which has almost been completed, as you can see these are the images of the location.

What am I doing right now?

I am still making the Keynes Location, once I finish that the rest of the screenshots for the location will be released. Afterwards other locations will be worked on in Antarctic.

(1 edit)

Dev log 13

Just a quick devlog!

Progression

I have made a lot of breakthroughs since the last dev log. I have made alot of progress on the Keynes location and I am very close to finishing it.

Keynes location

The Keynes location is essentially a cave in which the player will face dangerous situations that will require brains and logic in order to overcome. What I mean by that is that this cave has been occupied and researched on by the government. Meaning there are various equipment and computers in the cave that will help you with your efforts of surviving and exploring the cave. The whole point of this location is for Timothy (your partner) to do some research on Antarctic, unfortunately while researching and exploring the cave you become trapped by fallen rocks and debris and as a results you will have to escape and reach Timothy. This place is still being developed but here is a screen shot. I will release more screenshots later.

The Keynes location will also have point and click segments which will appear when your trying to survive in the cave.

More photos of Keynes

Dev log 15

Back again!

Progression

Another week has gone by and another dev log has been released further demonstrating the progress I made. I have almost finished the Keynes Area, only two layouts are left to complete. After we complete the keynes area we may as well... release the demo. But I am gonna have to think a lot whether thats the valid decision or not. If you guys want a playable build now then just reply to this dev log.

Dev log 16

The demo

I have recently made a lot of progress with the game and this has made the demo come closer and closer to being viewed by the public. I only need to finish the Keynes location and the boring stage of bug fixing and beta testing will begin. I am very excited to share the demo with you guys as I have been working on this game for exactly 4 months and 2 days right now. The demo will be a learning approach for me, any constructive feedback that I get from the demo will be used to improve the full version of the game.

Massive Announcement

Hey Guys, I have just announced on twitter that Part 1 of Antarctic will be coming out on the 22nd of September. The game has been split into 3 story parts. The first part will be released on the 22nd of September which is on a Sunday. Part 2 will be worked on after the release of Part 1.

Dev log 18

Hey guys Its been a hectic week of releasing the game and here it is if you want to play it.

https://starrainarts21.itch.io/antarctic

Anyway I have already started on working on part 2 and this will be released soon. I have also noticed people complaining about the font size as well as the size of the buttons , that has already been fixed in the 1.0 update patch, the next patch will be 2.0 and this will feature part 2 of Antarctic so stay tuned more devlogs coming.
