All in all I really like where this game is going! Just thought I'd provide some feedback from my first impressions of the game. Most of this is kind of mundane usability and bug stuff but hey sometimes it's hard to notice these things when you're close to the project so I figured I'd list them out.
- All food seems to say it's fish in the tooltip haha.
- You can’t leave character creation screen once you’re in it. Not with the escape key or anything I've found. Moreover it deletes your existing character when you click "New Game," meaning if you were thinking of re-rolling then having second thoughts, you're out of luck.
- I haven't gotten very far but it seems that everyone wants to kill me? Are there NPCs you talk to at all or is this not that kind of game. If you’re just on a soul stealing rampage that's cool. It may be fun to play that up a little more.
- Speaking of stealing souls, I've gotta say that sound when you gobble up an enemy's soul after killing it is quite satisfying :P
- As for colorblind stuff (from my other thread), the stamina and hunger bars are indistinguishable for me as well, though that’s not a big deal because they’re in specific positions.
- Love the spell effects!! Also love the faux 3d and how like the trees pop out of the game world.
- More features to facilitate keyboard-centric play would be nice, eg targeting, equipping things, picking things up. Definitely not a dealbreaker by any means though.
- Can you skin and butcher an animal both? Seems kind of wasteful thematically to only be able to do one but I could understand this from a balance perspective.
- Haven’t figured out a consistent way to reproduce this state but occasionally the map just stops updating itself. A restart of the game fixes this.
- It would be a nice convenience to have a way to use tools without having to equip them. Or maybe have the game auto-equip them if you want the tradeoff of having something in your hands that’s not your weapon when nasties come to say hi.
- I wouldn't really care for it myself (I play a lot of traditional roguelikes), but an eventual option to disable permadeath somehow might be a good move for accessibility.
Thanks for opening up the game! Looking forward to future developments.
