Itch could really make some moves by bringing their digital attitude to the Print on Demand RPG world. A convo with some other creators on Twitter today brought out these points:
- "If @itchio teamed up with printer to offer Print On Demand it would immediately become the #1 tabletop rpg retailer." (https://twitter.com/NateTreme/status/1174423995124473863?s=20)
- "itchio refining its platform to provide specific tools for ttrpg development and publishing, including physical publishing and distribution, directly lowers the difficulty for independent creators to put their games out there." (https://twitter.com/DungeonCommandr/status/1174749481276825600?s=20)
- "The minute they provide automatic revenue splitting and some kind of PoD options, we're all moving home. The lack of exclusivity bs alone is a winner. I'd like faster payment processing but I can live with it in exchange for *gestures at the cave of wonders that is itch*" (https://twitter.com/SandyPugGames/status/1174750865321799681?s=20)
- "Any kind of accessible development framework *specifically* angled towards the creation of new projects, even as just a jumping off point, could really revolutionize the ttrpg scene as a democratized creative space" (https://twitter.com/TheEggpie/status/1174803422555492352?s=20)
- "Swordsfall will probably be one of the biggest on it once it hits. I'm gonna wait to put it on DTRPG for last." (https://twitter.com/Swordsfall1/status/1174740350553878528?s=20)
Itch.io could disrupt printed RPG publication the same way it has disrupted game publishing, and would get enthusiastic support from people who like making printed works as well as pixels. Please consider adding this to your near-term product roadmap!
