I really would like to hear some feedback.
Grappling hooks and guns · By
More Weapon Variety would be greatly appreciate. I also feel the hud might be better off moved to one of the arms.
I experienced a common bug where a red magazine would be displayed as a grey gun rather than a magazine.
Also experience an uncommon bug where the inventory holograms wouldn't disappear after turning off the inventory.
Btw, the latest build allows you to turn off the HUD entirely. Hold down both inventory buttons to release the in-game option menu. You will always seem your CPU Cycle status on your storage disks. And I doubled down on making those stubborn clips disappear when the inventory is turned off. The bug *should* be gone now.
One of the NUMEROUS things that is planned for is a smorgasbord of new bullet types, from grenades to rockets to lasers. But at the moment, I'm focusing on allowing the game to move between levels in an intelligent way. Right now you only move between levels by dying or completing all of the Hex Console Puzzles. There is no level progression.
Removing the HUD would be nice, but there's alot of information I need the player to know. It is in my thoughts though. HUD's are so dated. If I can come up with a good solution, I'll allow them to disappear. Or at least toggle off. (of course, to toggle anything requires a Game Menu, which is another huge project)
Are you certain you're not seeing the "Starter Gun"? There is always a grey gun in your starting inventory now. It has TERRIBLE stats, but you don't start completely unarmed. Once level progression is working, you'll have guns from previous levels. Or course, level progression means each new level has higher and higher stats, so even a great gun will eventually be newbie trash a level or two forward.
I *might* have fixed that inventory bug with a new system that SUPER-PURGES those things. I had seen the bug many times before. But right now the game's guts are all over the place, so I can't share the build. It's like a car at a mechanic, fan belts over one in place, the carburetor is on a table. This level progression thing is SUPER IMPORTANT to make this an actual game. I have the key system working, and I have a Terminal up and running. But the widget that actually generates level stats and MOVES you to said level, is still just a dream. Also, I don't have a system to dispense the key-parts that you build the key out of. I *might* need to build a whole new badguy to pack around the key bits, so you can kill them, collect the bits, assemble the key, and activate the Terminal to transfer to other levels. See? Complicated!
I can see why Stormland was made the way it was made. There are only so many ways to make a game like this. I'm trying to do some new stuff, so I can't really copy them too much. It requires lots of pondering. There's millions of ways to solve this problem, but I think there's only a handful that are actually fun to play. Thanks for the input, every bit helps.
Oh my! Well the issue might be your old saved game. Uninstall the game entirely and clear your saved files. I tested it on a clean install (purged my beta files and installed from the APK I uploaded), and it worked. Please let me know if it's working after that! Very important a clean release is out.
Did you try uninstalling the game completely? I just cleaned out my beta, installed a fresh copy from SideQuest, and it worked as intended. Maybe clean the data and then delete the game, so it's 100% out, then reinstall after that? It has to be an old save issue... unless your Quest is just refusing to save it's data.
Did you give it permissions? If it can't write data, it'll never move past the tunnel. The end of the tunnel saves a file so it knows to move past it. I dunno why it asks for "photo" access, but it needs to write that save to work. The game constantly saves.
Have you had any issue saving progress in any other game? The save game files generated by QuestORama are a few kilobytes, so it seems HUGELY unlikely you're out of space. Are you low on space?
I would guess, for some crazy reason, your folder is file locked, so it doesn't allow saves. Have you updated your firmware recently? I tested on the release with hand tracking, so I'm certain it works with the latest Oculus firmware.
Just to be sure, try one of the older versions off GitHub directly, see if they work better: https://github.com/MaxSMoke777/QuestORama/releases
The save game system is new, so not sure if you'll see it fail even in the second to last version. Also, have you tried reinstalling, not just clearing the app data? *Sometimes* things go sideways on computer systems, it really could be just a bad install.
If you're up for it, I would like to send you the latest build and see if it helps. It won't help the save issue so much as it doesn't force a save state at the beginning. You might not be able to enjoy the multi-level aspect, as it can't store your victories with each node, but it should at least let you play. It's also full of a few new tricks nobody else has seen yet.
Does the old version have the in-game menu? I can't recall if I added it in the last release, or the release before it. The menu will allow you to clear the saved data.
I found a means to get around the problem that required me to use the saved game at the start. Going forward, the game will work without saving. That still doesn't say why your Quest is having that issue. I have bur in my stomach worrying this issue might be effecting others, but I can't seem to find anyone else to test it.
