#2 The animated maps

I've tried a few ways to get this to work, and so far the animated maps freeze both of my computers. I have a desktop I do most of my work on, then move to my laptop. I play with a projector. I currently run two campaigns, one an OA game and a standard startup that will move to a FR 5e version of Thunder Rift. (I love those maps, and they are perfect for this kind of software.)

I have a few really nice Ideas that i'd like to roll out for some of the dynamic dungeons maps. They bind the system right up, though. Any suggestions to get this to work better? I've tried maps from more than one source, and I've tried different sizes. I've mastered stills, so this is next on my agenda. The Dynamic dungeons run best on native MS media player. I tried the VLC application, but oddly enough it was worse, with weird screen blackouts.

Suggestions?

I just noticed there's a 1.6, so I'l Dl it and give it a try.

Hi again - let me know how things go with v1.6! If it is still a problem, please email me the dmhelper.log file (info@dmhelper.net)

We have tested with several maps from Dynamic Dungeons, which one is causing you grief?

Generally, the video playback uses libvlc from VideoLAN, so if the VLC player is having troubles it is unlikely that the DM Helper will be more successful. And unfortunately that probably means it might be somehow based on a system limitation of your PC. But before we decide that, let's check it out further!

I'm thinking my version of VLC was out of date. It migh be ten years or more old. I did get the maps tow work, but they're jittery. I'll see if it's maybe a rogue program taking too much cpu time or something. Thanks for the help though!

OK great, that sounds promising. The jitter may have to do with your system or with the performance in the DM Helper itself. I have indeed recently found a few weaknesses in that regard, so maybe you'll also see improvements with the next release. If not, feel free to reach out and we can look into it together if you like!
