The Silent Dungeon

Started working on The Silent Dungeon around an hour ago and I've got my character controller and the sonar done! Since the sonar is a key component to the gameplay and I thought I should post it here! I may leave in those stray particles to simulate footsteps, but I might think of a more elegant solution for that later.. If you've got any questions feel free to ask!

This just had to take place during my most busy week.. Anyways I got footsteps implemented and I also got a little AI working that moves towards the last location that it heard sound at. Going to be working on a few different enemies before moving on to dungeon generation!

I also added in a sneak mechanic that makes less noise so that you can lead an enemy and then sneak away at the last second to get around them.

Sadly I will not be able to finish this 7DRL because of some IRL stuff that popped up. I do plan to continue development on this game as things wind down, but for now I have to put game development on hold. Thanks for the support and I will continue to post updates on this game once I am able to continue working on it!

Yeah I've been looking over the mechanics a bit, and I want to include a pulse whenever you make noise. There might be a run button, and there will be a sneak button for strategically luring enemies. Another feature that I am implementing is microphone input, this way you can make noise IRL and send out waves as well, which forces you to be quiet sometimes.

Hello, I think your game concept is really cool, and would love to design some sort of sound around the game mechanic, but with a focus on silence. I’m out at work right now, but I’ll post a mock demo of what I have in mind once I get back home.

I was thinking the piano fit really well into the whole mood of the concept, with the percussive nature of the key touches adding a mock footstep. Keeping the game completely music free seems like it would be great too, just pitching an idea. Hope this helps.

That's a pretty cool idea. It's like every sound you make you advance one note in a song. The tempo would be totally dependent on how much is going on on the screen, so it would be adaptive to the mood as well. Moving frantically when lots is going on and slowly when you're sneaking and not causing sounds or standing still and thinking, etc.

Hi this is an amazing idea actually, sadly I will not be able to finish this 7DRL because of some IRL stuff that popped up. I do plan to continue development on this game as things wind down, but for now I have to put game development on hold. Thank you for the awesome suggestion though!
