(Bug) Magical Reaping kills instead of captures.

I was playing in hard mode and I wanted to capture a zealot with my Magical Reaping attack, but he instead died and gave my other opponents +3 attack to kill me with. I did not power up the attack with a red gem.
Please fix this.

Ouch, that's unfortunate :(. Sorry about that!

I did a quick test and couldn't get the result you describe - my magic/reaping attack captures the Zealot as intended. Could the attack damage have been increased somehow, for example by a multiplier, a chain bonus or an equipped Blood Cloak? Did it happen in the Frozen Horror scenario or in Chaos Realm?

I'm working on the next patch and will definitely fix this bug if I can replicate it. Thanks a lot for playing and reporting!

It was in the Frozen Horror scenario. I think I've also had it in the Chaos Realm.
I don't remember any additional details of what happened the first time, but I think the second time the reaping attack had a multiplier of some kind, instead of being magical. I don't remember what kind. For what it's worth, I believe both times I had the witch's knife.
FAKEEDIT: Oh wait a second, both times the base damage of the reaping attack was two. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Yeah, I really haven't been able to replicate the bug, so it might have been that you dealt too much damage. The enemy must be dealt exactly as much damage as its remaining health for the reap to happen.

Of course it's still very possible that there is a bug that I haven't been able to find. If it happens again it would be great if you could send me a screenshot of the game state. Thanks for reporting back!

Wait, that's the intended effect? You are supposed to have to hit exactly the amount of health they have left? Why?

Developer

Yeah, it's easy to miss that detail at the moment since it's buried in the tooltip for scythes. I'll think about how to make it more clear!

Thematically it is because the enemy is "just the right amount of dead" to make into a zombie. When it comes to design we try to add these mini puzzles to the combat to make it a little more interesting than just "maximize damage at all times". It also makes a very strong mechanic (reaping) just a little bit weaker.

It does add some complexity, though, and the type of feel-bad moments that you experienced are very unfortunate. I like it the way it is but maybe it would have been better to keep the mechanic as simple as possible. Game design is hard :)
