Is open source project = redistributing?

Hi, I love this pack! I plan to use it for some games to pick up SFML development.

I would like to open-source the games, but I imagine that including assets from this in an open source project amounts to redistributing them, in violation of the license.

Is that true?

I am sorry, it is true! 馃槵

OK, thanks! I just want to be sure I handle the terms properly.

Hm what about creating html games? It is trivial for any web developer to see the images that are being used and extract them (same is of course true for most form of binary games although extraction is most likely a bit more involved).   Would I be allowed to create html games and host them on let us say itch.io ?

For the past couple months I've been pondering this conundrum,  I would be interested to know how many art devs consider things like this.
But I've figured out that it's possible to streamline an image into the page such that it does not get loaded as a whole.
One could even send out a dummy image, the next game I release will be using such methods, and it will be part of my open source library.
Generally bringing some of the benefits of binary compilation to html thanks to the html5 canvas.

You could still open source the other parts of the game and just not include the assets from this asset pack.

That sounds like a good way to handle it! And refer anyone who would want to build it about how to acquire and use the assets themselves.

They are similar, but stylistically and very obviously, they are different. They are close, but not close enough to be considered "ripped" in a court of law. They are heavily inspired by, and on top of that, there are plenty of other assets that are brand new and not even associated with the original Link's Awakening DX.

There is another pack on here that I'd argue is VERY close to your initial assessment, but not this one. Check out other packs like this and you'll know exactly what I mean. This one is far more original.
