The Regrettably Woeful October Announcement

Hello and happy Halloween.

So for the last few months I've been trying to see if I'd found a way to both have a job and work on a new episode of Yorkshire Gubbins. I said that in October I would announce either a new episode is coming, or announce that I was going to just... rule out ever making any more episodes.

And, at the time, I thought that I was just being overly cautious. I was very confident that I'd found a healthy and sustainable way of working on game development while having a full time job and just managing being a human. I'd actually already made a lot of progress, far more progress than on any other attempt.

But here we are, last day of October, and as much as it pains me to have to say it, it turns out that no, I had not found a healthy and sustainable way of working. And this means that I simply have to accept that making any more content for Gubbins just isn't realistic or possible.

Refusing to let go of this idea that I have to make more content has been a big source of stress and guilt for me. It's made me feel like I can't make anything else until I'd at least made one more episode.

One of the most amazing things about those of you that love this game is your kindness and support. No-one's ever demanded more, no-one's ever made me feel bad about all the failed attempts. The only person who's been doing that to me is myself. And I have to stop doing it.

So, I'm sorry things turned out this way, and I'm sad there will never be any more Yorkshire Gubbins. But maybe there can at least be something else instead now.

I’m going to agree what everyone else is saying: there’s no need to apologize for not being able to make more “Yorkshire Gubbins”.  I love the game, and amount of great jokes and characters you put into each episode was a delight (including the tutorial!) and it will remain one of my favourite point-&-click adventure games.  I hope that whatever you work on next, whenever that may be, is enjoyable, and sustainable, for you to create. 💜

What there is of Yorkshire Gubbins is still a brilliant game, and I'll cherish it and share it with the people I know. I'm glad you've prioritised your own health and wellbeing, I don't think anybody wants you to develop to your own detriment.

Sigh. You're right, of course. ty.

No need to apologise for anything. Yorkshire Gubbins is nothing but fantastic as it is now and I'll gladly recommend it to anyone who wants to hear it.

ty tijn!

That's a shame, but Yorkshire Gubbins is already a delight and was already great value for money so there's no need for any form of apology. Hope you're doing well. Also, have you thought about any other outlets for your Yorkshire humor? Animated TikTok shorts or something similar could be a lot of fun. :)

I’ve been wondering about that myself :)

thank you btw, I remember how much you’ve supported these adventures!

No thanks necessary, it was always a pleasure to cover your games, they always brightened up my day! If you do release some animated shorts (or something similar), please post an announcement on Itch so I can check them out! :)
