Overall a good game, not the best, but still great. The reflection shield cool-down starts really quick and becomes slow at the top of the cool-down bar . I couldn't defeat the boss. The music is great. The only thing, I don't see how the final boss is a reflection, they looks similar, but I think it would be a reflection if the colours were inverted, but the boss has more detail than the player.
Still a great game.
Thanks! The colors on the boss are in fact inverted, but I also added outline so that his outer part won't be the same color as background (which is awkward)
Yeah, the colours are, but the boss has more detail, so technically he isn't a reflection.
I actually thought it was just reverted, but then I looked at the preview pic
The one on the left is the player, on the right is the player inverted, I would count this as a reflection, a reflection has the same amount of detail as the object being reflected.
You could of just added a outline around the whole boss.
Oh damn, that's right
Honestly I didn't like the way it seemed with outline, try to put it on the background
But still, the boss is not a reflection.
Well, now that I'm looking at it, I guess it wouldn't be that bad (even tho the resolution of the boss should've became 18x18)
I'm like really bad at art tho and have 0 idea about proper techniques that are used
btw the explanation of cooldown thing is that it partially restores if you successfully parried a bullet and then fills as normal
This game would have been perfect if the controls were a bit tighter. I didn't get very far in the game so I didn't see any use of the themes because it was so hard to line up your jump. Some more feedback maybe a sound effect when you hit an enemy would have been awesome. Everything else was excellent.
Use of themes:
1) Reflection shield
2) Final boss, who's your reflection
I liked the enemies art ,game over panel was good indicating that we should press R to restart.
I wanted to like this one more then I do. The reflection mechanic to shoot enemies is so clever, and the graphics are cute!
Sadly, between the fast, momentum based player movement, enemies taking two hops to defeat, and the cruelty of the shield mechanic timer, I just couldn't really enjoy my time playing. I ended up dying to panic and running over the same ground a lot. :(
Having said that, nice work on graphics, and great work with the sound, reflection mechanic ideas, and level design! I think with some balancing of difficulty, expanding on the aim/reflect idea with more powers, and tightening up the player movement just a tad, this could be a great game to revisit!
The music and sound effects are great, but the sfx being so much louder than the music is pretty rough; some options to configure that would be nice. The reflection mechanic would be better with an auto-aim, I think, so the player could focus on timing and avoiding projectiles.
Those issues aside, it's a competent metroidvania type game with very clean and stylistically cohesive graphics. You're right to be proud of it.
I really liked the idea of the reflection attack. Also the way you get introduced to it is quite nice, finding the two powerup items.
Unfortunately I couldn't beat the boss after 5 attempts. Timing the shield deploy is quite the challenge. I think it would be more fun if you would remove or prolong the timing constraint, at least for the boss since I found timing the shield deployment and aiming at the bullets a bit overwhelming. I managed to get it's health in half. Maybe some healing items during the fight would also help.
Thanks!
Yup, the boss is really tough, I myself often struggle to beat them.
I believe I should buff the shield a bit, I nerfed it a lot b/c it was too overpowered and now seems like it's underpowered
