Nice concept you have there! Kudos for employing all three themes at the same time. I think the game has a really nice concept, pointing out especially the mechanics for shifting the middle beam around in position. And I personally find it a big plus that it caters for multiple local players, although I couldn’t try it out with anyone else as I live alone (so I just acted as both players at the same time - which makes the co-op mode a very interesting spin on the single-player mode).
In terms of potential improvements, I find that the font for the instructions is quite hard to read and gave me a very hard time until I managed to understand it. Also, it doesn’t seem to mention how Player 2 controls the dragon (although I later found out by trial and error). I also couldn’t find any way to get back into the main screen, which I found slightly annoying, along with the music which is nice initially but after a bit it becomes too much. Other than that, I just think there should be some form of scoring in the game (based on survival time?) and a better balancing overall, as the the random nature of the obstacles makes the game extremely difficult, making you die within a few seconds of starting (unless you control each dragon individually, but then you have other difficulties).
Overall I think the game has a lot of potential as a fun little game, with a bit more polish.
thank you so much for the detailed and constructive feedback! I entirely agree, I was proud of the music I didn’t listen to it on a loop but it got to the point where I was running out of energy. I’m glad you were able to have a shot of the multiplayer, and as a single player experience it still works pretty well! I should have included controls, so my bad there. I also agree with just about everything you’ve said here, and it’s definitely things I can improve without too much effort. Thank you so much for taking the time to play and rate, it means a great deal!
Somehow you managed to implement all of the three proposed themes! Well done! :)
But I think the game is too hard (I didn't even try the hardcore mode...)
Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't get past few flaps...
Anyways, a good entry! :)
Thanks so much for playing! I’m so glad you liked it! I was also super pleased I managed to use gml, post the .yyz with my source code, and I would have loved to use the palette swapper but I’m is broke atm haha, the games difficulty is intense, and hardcore is near impossible, but I’m super happy with how it turned out. Tomorrow I’m going on a gaming spree and I’ll be sure to test yours and give it a go!
Hmm, do you need to login to game maker to play? Should just be a runnable executable, ah well - other games to play.
Hi! The version I submitted is a .yyz, but I have added a link to a google drive containing a .zip file which contains an Application of the game! I hope you take the time to play and rate!
The name led me to believe there would be running, not a hardcore Flappy Bird-like, but I am not at all disappointed!
The graphics are eye-searing in a fun way (if not properly 1-bit), and I got to play co-op with family, which is a rarity these days. The music and sounds fit great, the dragons are top-notch slithery pals, and the variety of included game modes is very impressive.
I hope you're proud of this; it's very cool.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you liked it! The original design was much more jet pack joyride like, but I found the flappy bird style to work much better for the style of the game. The phrase top notch slithery pals is absolutely being added to my vocabulary haha. I’m super proud of this project, I just got a diploma in games design and this is my first project after a long break and it went so much better than I ever could have hoped for. Thank you so much for taking the time to play and review!
Can you provide instructions how to run this without having to login into a google account?
It's kinda hard to try this game out.
I tried making the link public, does that work? It’s a .zip so it does need to be extracted. Later today I’m probs gonna upload an unzipped version to make things easier, thank you for taking an interest and letting me know!
