Cool game, the terminal is a very interesting idea for a mechanic. I really like that every action is a command, including changing the music. Trying different commands was fun and I liked the little bits of narration in between. The only thing that bothered me a little was the input being erased every time I closed the console. The graphics and music complement the gameplay and fit the theme very well.

I have a couple minor nitpicks, e.g. the enemies don't really pose a challenge, the healing command didn't seem to work and the game froze when I died, but that didn't take away from the experience.

Overall a fun game with a very original main mechanic, well done!

Hey, cool game.

As a user experience thing, I’ll say that as someone who doesn’t entirely read things carefully enough the first time, I was inputting just 1234 instead of passcode(“1234”) and wasn’t getting any feedback from the terminal that it didn’t understand what I was doing, so I assumed it was just the wrong code.

I also crashed on level 2, I killed one ninja (I like your ninjas btw) and it froze when the second ninja I tried stabbing killed me. I had visited several of the circle nodes but wasn’t near any at the time.

Might wanna make the circles change colors if you’ve visited them before, it’s hard to know where I’ve been, at least as long as the levels have the same look throughout.

Thank you very much! I greatly appreciate you giving the game a try!

I’m sorry it crashed on you. Sadly, that bug popped up in the final hours of development and I couldn’t, for the life of me, figure it out. It was affecting me when interacting with the circles. If it’s crashing on the enemies… well.. hell, that’s an even bigger mystery! Thank you for that feedback!

I totally understand your issue with the passcode. To be honest, that whole system was a last minute addition because it was taking me so damn long with the bad guy that I was worried that, even for a jam game, just running around killing ninjas was going to be sub-par. That said, while I think it works fairly well, the terminal isn’t exactly fool-proof, so I apologize for that.

Again, thank you very much for giving the game a try!

That’s interesting, I still would have thought it was built around the terminals. I think there’s still a lot of unexplored space for that kind of thing, hacking, system infiltration and so on, if you returned to the game post-jam. Best of luck!

I like the idea of the terminal! I like how the game makes you figure things out by yourself, rather than telling you all the answers. And it gives you an interesting tool to investigate and find the answers. Very cool!

Our game for the jam is based on a similar design philosophy. I like how you executed the concept. Maybe you could check it out because I'm curious what you think of it! Traversal. Let me know your thoughts if you get a chance to play it!

Developer

Hey… sorry it took me a while to respond. I wanted to try your game first and my weekend had been busy.

Regardless, than you very much for trying my game! I’m glad you found the terminal and puzzle solving entertaining!

Great aesthetic! Also loved the in game terminal idea. Unfortunately the game froze up on me in level 2 mid knife fight :(

Developer

Thank you very much for giving the game a go. I’m very sorry the game froze. I’m curious, did it freeze during your first attempt at fighting, or had you fought some bad guys prior to the fight that froze? Also… do you happen to know if you were near one of the pulsing circles? (Because, one of those was giving me a hard crash. I thought I removed it, but I’m wondering if I missed it and you may have stepped on it while you were fighting?)

Submitted

I believe I had dispatched one goon already. Sorry I couldn't say for sure if I stepped near one of the pulsing circles. But I think the section I was fighting on had one.

I see you are also a man of culture who enjoys neon-like visuals, check my game if you want too

Hey! I did, in fact, play your game on a twitch stream I did this evening. Here’s a link to it, if you’d like to watch. I will be posting a written version of my review on your game’s jam entry page before the end of the day tomorrow :D
