It's a shame RPGMaker MZ still doesn't support linux, but I wanted to say Martha is really cute, and I look forward to watching your game on future DD streams.

I do not understand why Martha is a Priest, and not a Priestess.

cute pointy nose

Sorry for that :(

  • Don't use the names of other skills inside other skills. Light Burn says the word "Pray" which is confusing to a first time player. It's worth taking the time to customize the skills menu because it's very hard to notice new skills and it's still very... Stock.
  • Conversation art for Martha doesn't seem to include a variant without a hat for when she doesn't have a hat, assuming it's not a bug, details like that are important when it should be on Bastard's dialogue headshot.
  • Janky movement in the overworld is kinda awkward even when dashing. Not bad, just feels awkward.
  • I wonder how the 50% smash chance works when you can easily savescum smash them. Might be okay.
  • It's very easy to miss the "vulnerable" mechanic being inflicted.
  • The middle map with the exploding mushrrom that leads left, down and right doesn't have the purple dot indicators leading right.
  • The sketches for a lot of characters are the same color as mushrooms which makes it hard to know what's interactible.

I beat the boss and it wasn't too hard or too easy, I might've got lucky because he just didn't attack most of the time.

It's a neat little game, I think making 3 areas like this would be a good size. I don't know how WIP the music is but I'd hope there's a half dozen different music tracks in total by the end of the game.

Taking notes on everything, all should be easy fixes.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, will do my best to improve.

First off, loved the battle UI, the hearts, apple, and chalice look great, you could keep that as is and it'll be perfect for the final product. I liked the item management aspect, felt like I had to scrounge around for resources and even getting small items felt like progress. Would love to see more enemy hazards as well, like the exploding mushrooms. I will say with the boss, Mortes, my first time fighting him he could not hit me, maybe hit me once or twice, and the battle went on for quite a while since the hearts healed him back to full health. Reloaded and tried again, this time he hit me more but still missed a lot. Couldn't tell if it was a bug or due to a mechanic i was using, I actually really like for mechanics to be obtuse and mysterious in RPGs, just wanted to give a heads up since the boss felt kind of anticlimactic.

Developer

Thanks a lot!

And yes, boss was rushed for Demo Day, sorry for that, he needs lots of improvements.

Not a big RPG guy but it was fun enough. The fire wand seemed to adjust one of the stats but it along with a few others were unlabeled. Not sure what being exposed means or how it triggers but it happened a lot. Liked the rotating on the enemy health, but the sliding on the player health/mana didn't look good.

The visuals are great except for this gay mushroom and his hitbox blending into the floor.

Developer

Mushroom removed, I disliked them too.

I need to work on making status effects more obvious, it seems I made a pretty bad job and implementing them.

Thanks for the feedback!

Finished your demo, think I got all the equipment and recruited the imp. I fucking love this, the stoner fantasy vibe is great. The music there is in the game is lovely, the writing was funny, even though everything is unfinished the enemy designs are great.

I only have two complaints: I want to be able to save from the menu and the bones left after the bastard should be "below the player".

Developer

Thanks a lot for playing!

I guess saving anytime is easier, I got caught with the idea of making it "cooler"

Unrelated: Dreams of Joy is cool af, you have a great sense of aesthetic :)

You could keep the savestations and add some other feature, like a temporary buff or something and do both!

Developer

Maybe!
I'll see what I can do.

Killed Mortes. Fuck the healing hearts.
There are some minor gameplay issues, such as the Ugly Bastard's stats not being displayed on reflect, and a few typos. There's also no good way to get mana back easily, when it's obviously needed in some fights. Tobacco wasn't enough, so I spammed Reflect for that +5 mana. Mortes saw me do that and he just weakened me until I was ready, the nice lad.

The designs and atmosphere are nice, but the writing is predictable. The old "God is bad, Demons are actually cool" thing is well known, and it didn't take me long to be able to predict conversations. The spin needs another layer on top of it to work, but it will be hard to find something that wasn't done before. Personally I think you should crank it up to 11, with Martha REALLY wanting to kill all the demons and blabbing about it all the time, while the demons don't particularly care. Either that, or Martha misinterprets anything people are saying to be negative. Like the conversation with the other priest, they could say something along the lines of "The Demons are alright"  to which Martha replies "All right? Right where? There's nothing here, I fear the demons have corrupted your mind.. poor thing..."
In fact, your characters visuals are their strongest bits - it feels as if they are lacking a good personality or dialogue to follow it up. Yes I know it's early and probably not yet implemented, but you asked the feedback to be harsh.
Anyway,  10/10 best smug sun in DD52

Thanks for the feedback, now I will dev until my eyes melt away from my skull.
