Love the idea, and the use of the State-Machine in relation to the theme to control and check behavior is super clever! I was able to grasp the goal of the game pretty quickly by reading the instructions and the spoiler. I only wish the time from dying to start playing again was faster, almost instantaneous, I died a lot XD
Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, faster respawn would definitely improve the experience, thanks for the pointer ;)
Hey. Just in case, we updated the game and added 3 tutorial levels, as well as instant retry (we're aware that mid-rating update might disqualify us for the jam, but getting good feedback is worth that risk :P)
Nice! Can't comment much about the tutorial levels, since I already knew how to play. But I'm very happy that now is possible to retry the last level on dying 👍
I've found a couple of small bugs, if you are ok I can list them here.
Yes please!
And thanks for taking the time 😉
- When controlling a cell, the Arrow is not aligned with the actual direction the cell is pushed (when using a gamepad, keyboard seems ok)
- Sometimes when pressing the left arrow to infect the hearth (that is to my left) the virus leaves the cell to the right, getting exposed to the Bacteriophages (also on gamepad, not sure if the same issue happens on keyboard)
The premise of the game is pretty interesting and clever but controls and gameplay definitely need some overhaul. I tried to figure out which key activate the buttons on the main menu by pressing all the keys on the keyboard for 10 minutes. It is the "ı" key by the way. It took another 10 minutes or so to figure out how to control the cells. As far as i understand you spin the arrow around the cell and when you press k the cell moves in the arrow's direction. The faster the arrow spins the faster the cell moves and when Beacteriophages see you, game is over. The problem for me is that game is too hard for a game where control scheme is so unusual. Those guys see you right of the bat, and when i died 20 times consecutively i honestly lost the will to play the game anymore. But this is just me. Maybe it could be better if there was some sort of tutorial or the first level could be more handholding to ease the player in. Anyway, i appreciate your creativty, artistic touch and efforts. I wish you luck in your projects!
Thanks for playing, and for the feedback! Yes, the game definitely needs a tutorial, the learning curve is way to steep as is. The idea is that by imitating the behavior of the cells after taking control of them, you can get past the bacteriophages without them attacking you, but the game kinda throws you off the deep end and if you don't figure it out right away, frustration ensues :P

This is really polished on the gfx and sfx front, fantastic. I had a lot of trouble with the controls though. I read the instructions a bunch of times but I kept losing in the first few seconds of the game. This is something I struggle with in my own game as well. How to teach the player the controls without it being punishing or frustrating.
Thanks a lot for the feedback!
Indeed, the combination of unusual controls and unusual mechanics make it quite difficult. Add to that the poor readability (especially of the first level) and you get the 'I don't know what's going on and now i'm dead' feeling that you've experienced.
We're thinking of a number of things to improve this (maybe add a playground level where you can get used to the controls?), but for now we've added a spoiler for level 1 in the description, if you wanna give it another go ;)
Ohhh I see it now. Yeah, there is no way I would have figured out I had to hit both keys at the same time. I think the purple arrow on the purple background also is making it hard to see what you are doing. I think simplifying the controls would be the best option and maybe changing the colors to contrast better. Maybe hold down the right mouse to rotate left to propel forward or something like that. Make it as simple and easy to use as possible.
Yep, controls are definitely a bit too complex. Maybe if we introduced them one after the other it would be easier? (We would like to keep all of them to allow for more complex patterns down the line, but for this jam it was probably too ambitious). And yes, purple on purple was a very bad choice :P
Thanks for giving it another go!

Loved the graphics! Nice audio too!
Thanks!
If you had trouble with level 1, we've added a spoiler to the description page to make it easier ;)
