Track description | Creative process
The track's style for this jam is very chamber-music like with woodwind instruments as I feel it's appropriate for a snowy level. I actually made two versions of this track. The previous version I feel is too intense, with 2 tom-toms and a full brass section. So, I opt to make a more relaxed/intimate version with the same theme, different development and instrumentation, which ended up being this version.

I really like the key change at the climax, and how it wanders down into being a little more playful afterwards! In my opinion I have some difficulty matching it to the metroid track and section of the game it's from, when listening to it I'm imagining more of a forest or snow forest vibe from it - maybe closer to a zelda track than a metroid track? Either way I like the way it moves through different feelings, and the different dynamic ranges work for me
Really like the composition overall, and could mostly see it as part of the soundtrack, but felt there was something off with the mixing, some parts were quite hard to hear while others were quite loud.
I really like this remake! Seeing that the game level has stark contrasts of bright snow next to dark bunker-like elements, I think you captured this dichotomy well through your composition in using light woodwind and piano sections contrasted with dark and big sections dominated by the timpani. Your track seems to support an exploration style of gameplay, but I think it would be really interesting to hear this type of track setting up a first-person shooter as I haven’t heard something like this in that context before. Compositionally, this is quite impressive and I really enjoyed it! I really liked it overall and it left a great impression. Great work and thank you for sharing!
Awesome work from the composition point of view. But when it comes to Metroid, using only acoustic instruments makes it hard to get a sci-fi feeling, also some of the harmony choices create a strong 19th and early 20th centuries vibes.
Definitely could've done better with the sci-fi feeling. I think it's possible though to get that atmosphere just through acoustic instruments, but it requires more modern harmony and less crowded section. The track just sounds like your regular snow-themed level lol. Thanks for the comment!
the bell percussion in this really helps it sound wintery! i'd recommend trying to equalize some of the volume though, some sections are almost too quiet to hear while others are very loud
It was actually peaking before I added in a limiter, but now the "climax" section is just too loud lol. Definitely taking that into account. Appreciate the criticism!
