Track description | Creative process
Track composed by Pablo Lambert for the Alternative Soundtrack Music Jam #5, as if it were composed for the Earthbound soundtrack.
Chill! I'm just lookin' is a bossa style shopping theme composed as if it were composed for Earthbound. It has a AABA structure and was composed using SNES Soundfonts from Earthbound (Thanks to William Kage). This shopping theme is a kind of response to the title of Buy Something Will Ya!, as if a costumer was just looking for things to buy and asking for time to do it without pressure.
Something that inspired me a lot by Buy Something Will Ya! was the use of chromatic enclousers in the melody, and i love the kind of standard cliche harmony based in american music, so i thought of composing a bossa style theme with chromatic resolutions in the melody and a lot of harmonic cliches, and it was really fun to do!
Honestly I always wanted to compose a shopping theme for a videogame, I guess the track is also inspired by the shopping themes from Pokemon and Animal Crossing because I love them. And this submission was the perfect excuse for composing a track in this style and for learning how to use soundfonts in my DAW which is Ableton Live.
As far as mixing this track I approached it more by balancing volume, panning and a little reverb from the sforzando plugin, other than that I used a mastering chain with a little corrective eq using soothe2 and some limiting with the god particle.

Very cool ! Works perfectly as a shop theme, and I really like the composition overall, very well done on this one !
Solid bossa nova track, you did a good job at making the soundfonts sound not as cheap and cheesy as they usualy do. But somehow the cheesyness I feel is a vibe that can be looked for when composing for such an funny game.
For the same reason I think the track lacks a bit of surprise elements, I know its hard to add unexpected chords or rhythms in such a codified style but I think it would have made the piece more credible and unique.
Before I knew that bossa nova was called bossa nova, I really enjoyed the Rustboro theme. And that's the vibe I get when I listened to your track! Very chill and relaxing.
Nice bossa nova tune. Especially liked the transition and melody around 0:50 (and when it repeats later of course).
